Battery Saver Turned on, and I Didn't do It

Earlier today I noticed my battery icon looked weird--had a red outline around it and a 'plus sign' inside the battery. I had 82% battery chsrge remaining.

Since I had installed a new battery app last week, AccuBattery, I figured it was going something and I'd check the settings later.

A while later I had the thought that the icon that had changed was the stock battery icon. I remember when I installed the AccuBattery app I specifically set it up so it wouldn't show their battery icon. So I pull out my phone and I see the battery icon is back to normal appearances.

I guess the battery saver had been turned on but I didn't do it.

What the heck was going on?

Apparently Google was doing some experiment with battery saver and it remotely turned on the battery saver of thousands (millions?) of Pixel and Essential phones.

Kind of spooky when you think about it. What else can Google do to my phone remotely? Turn on the cameras? The microphone?

Yeah.. Seems many users had this issue today, including me.

I had the same thing happen today on my 2XL. Noticed a red outline around the battery icon, went into settings and saw battery saver was turned on. Turned it off and a couple hours later it was back on. Saw the article earlier and that explains it.

Happened to me too at around 80%. I have mine set to run automatically at 30% and when I went to turn it off it was set to come on automatically come on at 99%.

Yeah, don't like that idea. Guess I always knew they probably could in the back of my mind but still don't like the idea.

Me too. I took my phone off charge at 99% When I looked at it about 5 mins later battery saver had been turned on. I thought I mist have caught it. So turned it off. After I read the article I checked the settings page and automatic had been disabled. So I turned it back to automatically come on at 15% again.

Google remotely switched battery saver on

Kind of scary they can do this, without your permission for internal testing

I had the battery icon oddity, but it went away with a reboot and power saver never went on....I do have battery saver turned off , so that may have kept it from turning on. I figured they they are starting to sabotage our P2's to get us thinking about upgrading.... lol
