Battery usage: Typical?

I've had my nexus 5 since October. I had a moto g before with a great battery life but with the nexus I find myself recharging the phone within 5 hours of use.

The battery doesn't drain on standby but it drops wayyyyy too fast otherwise. The moto G was much more durable.

Is it normal to only get a max of 5-6 hours of use on a charge?? No right?

I've looked around, I've disabled Google fit, disabled Google now, cleared as many apps as I can but it's still like this. Bluetooth is off but WiFi is on, which shouldn't be a problem really (otherwise why even have a smartphone?). Let me know how long your phones last because if it's normal I'll just go back to my moto g!

Hi orangersky. I would need a bit more of information to try to help you.
First of all, did you bought it new or was it second handed? When you got it did you update it to lollipop or was it already on that version? When you say 5-6 hours of use do you mean stand by or screen time?

Most of the reported cases of lousy battery after upgrading to lollipop are fixed with a factory reset (I know, it's not pretty, but it fixes most of those cases).

As for typical use, my Nexus 5 lasts about 3hours screen on time and 15-16hours total. It's not a great battery overall but for my use its plenty enough.

Also, if you install GSam Battery monitor and post percentages of use after a full cycle, that could help (screenshot on the main screen of the app and the apps percentages shown)

Hope I could help.

Also, can you tell me what's your brightness settings? Do you have ambient display on?

It would be normal or actually great batt life if you have the screen on the whole 5 or 6 hours. What's your screen on time

Thanks for the quick response! I've taken a bunch of screenshots but I can't seem to attach them here and apparently I can't post links before I have 10 posts.

The brightness is less than half way through.

I got it new with kit kat and about a week after it went to lollipop so I didn't really have the chance to compare the two systems. I get about 3 hours screen time 2 hours standby and the phone is near 0% from 100.

3 hours of screen on time seems really lousy, I thought my battery was exceptionally poor but if that's normal then I guess I'll try my moto g again :(

Yup, 3hrs screen on time sounds about right. Even so, the stand by should be higher. Do you get bad reception?

Either way that's basically the weak point of the Nexus 5. It does get me through the day but I am not a power user.
Hope we helped

Yup thanks a lot! The 2 hour standby time is when I have the screen on for 3 hours otherwise it's OK. Cheers :)
