Battery won't charge/is haunted or something

I've had this phone since late December, and I haven't had issues too severe until yesterday.

Yesterday when I plugged the phone into the charger, it did not register that it was connected. If I turn the phone off and plug it in, the battery icon will pop-up, however--when I unplugged and turned the phone on after that, there is a battery charging icon on the top despite the fact it's not plugged in.

I'm guessing it has to be getting charged somewhat, but it's acting sporadic, and still won't show a battery charging sign when plugged in. I've tried rebooting the phone multiple times as well as taking the battery and sim card out. Any ideas?

I've tried three different cables. I've also tried plugging it into a computer, and into a wall outlet. I have taken the battery out multiple times, tried restarting it with it plugged in, plugged out, etc. I have no idea.

I was Google'n stuff, and I found this. This sounds EXACTLY like what's happening to me: [Q] USB/Battery Charging Bug - xda-developers

It is really annoying because I never have an accurate reading of how much life is in the battery. Oddly enough, much like the link I just posted, my battery will read low, I'll turn it off and on, and it then the reading bumps up to the exact numbers other people were reporting (I believe ~44, 65).

At any rate, I'm draining the phone completely right now by leaving Netflix on. I'm going to then try to charge it overnight and see if it starts acting normal tomorrow. Someone with a similar issue said this fixed it, and I can only hope it works for me as well.

(Note: the phone seems to charge while off although it is highly sporadic.)

I'm hesitant to send it in because this is possibly the worst time for me be without a phone. A factory reset is a viable option, but someone online said it did not fix his/her issue, and the idea of putting all of my music and et ceteras back on the phone is a really big hassle.

Maybe tomorrow I'll go to Verizon and see if a different battery changes it? I don't know. I'm sorry if I haven't been very clear in expressing what's going on, but I'm trying my best! Any feedback would greatly be appreciated.

I think i read somewhere in the forums here that you can power off, do a battery pull, remove the sim card, replae battery, turn the phone back on, and replace the sim card - at least you can try that without a factory reset, cant hurt.

Just did that. At first it appeared like it was fixed! The phone was accurately saying it was not being charged. I plugged it in and then it said it was being charged, but then when I unplugged it, it kept on thinking it was being charged. Blah...

I'm going to do it again so it's back to at least accurately saying it's not being charged, and then I'm going to let it die. Maybe if I let it die and charge it back it will work? I don't know...

ah that sucks. maybe a replacement device is in order - like there is a problem with the usb port or something ...

How many batteries do you have? One would to troubleshoot would be to see whether this was behavior was phone/hardware or battery. Or at least as a method of narrowing it down.

Further, if rooted/rommed, some people believe that wiping battery stats in CWM does something (others say it's merely a placebo). At this point, it's worth a shot (same with wiping cache/dalvik).

I only have one battery, but from what I read, people that have had similar problems reported that swapping batteries did nothing. At some point this week I'm going to restore the phone, but I also read that doesn't help either.

To me, it seems as if it is a software issue, but it's looking like hardware. That seems odd to me, however, because the battery was working flawlessly up until a few days ago. The phone didn't get wet, and was under no stress, so I'm ruling that out. I'm pretty fragile when it comes to things that cost three hundred dollars hah.

I appreciate the responses, and if anyone has any other ideas, do share. I'm tried just about everything at this point.

I just had a similar issue. All of a sudden, my Galaxy Nexus would not charge. I tried different adapters and cables and nothing worked. Then I figured out it would charge when the phone was turned off. Sometimes after turning it off, it would charge when turned back on, but that would only last for a while before the ability to charge while powered on was lost again. I tried resetting the phone (per Verizon's recommendation) and it didn't change anything (other than eat up hours of my time). I got a replacement phone and that is working fine.

With the old phone I also found that it would not be recognized by my computer when connected via USB, whether it was charging or not through the cable. I don't know if it's a hardware or software fault but replacing the phone was the only fix that worked for me.

I had the same problem. Went to the vzw store and they said the phone is defective, we will send you a replacement. I got it (a rebuild) and returned the original as directed. Today I get an email SURPRISE! I owe $299 for damage to the phone! They show a close up pic of what appears to be a corroded USB port, but I never got the thing wet. Anyone else have similar issue?

I'm on my 3rd nexus well will b my replacement is at home. Mine just stopped charging so carry 3 batteries and charge in the spare charger its hardware and Samsung is aware of it

Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using Xparent Cyan Tapatalk

I would point out that many others are having similar issues and that perhaps they need to investigate whether there was a problem during manufacturing or shipping where the devices were compromised. Did they say anything about the water stickers? I think it's outrageous that they would try and blame the customer.

I just got the same problem after 9 months, and the woman at Verizon said I can send it back... only problem is how do I get all my pictures and stuff off if I can't connect it to my computer? It is not being recognized (come to think of it, it was never recognized any computer). Any help would be appreciated. I think there is too much stuff to transfer over airdroid.

Welp, same thing is happening to me. Only accepts a charge on certain USB cables and once it's unplugged, it won't charge when it's plugged back in. When it's off. It cycles between the lighting bolt and battery filling up images (as oppose to just the battery filling up imagine like it should) Hopefully I can get it back to stock and get a refurb.

I have been having the same issues the last 2 days. Plugged my phone in overnight, only to wake up at 43%. Tried another wall charger, nothing. Tried computer usb charging, nothing. Did a battery pull, nothing. Finally since I was late for work, I just swapped batteries.

At work I have a docking station with a spare battery charger (something like this: Black Dock Cradle Stand Station Charger for SAMSUNG GALAXY NEXUS PRIME i9250 | eBay) and the phone charges just fine. Put my spare, almost empty battery in the compartment and I'm good to go for the whole day.

Could it be the electricity in my house is anti-Samsung all of the sudden?? :D

Oh..and it charges just fine in my friend's car too.

I'm sorry, but that thread's first two posts -- by that thread's starter (aka, its "original poster" or "OP") -- are just ridiculously wrong and misleading.

I have, however, added a third post to that thread which sets straight the record; and provides any Samsung Galaxy famly phone user -- particularly a Note II user -- with pretty much everything s/he needs to know about this subject.
