Battery won't charge when using navigation

Great info and thanks. My usb in my car (2011 sonata) is used to hook up ipods and usb sticks to play music. I was using the usb cord that came with the S3 to charge.

I'm willing to pay the $15 if that's what works or can I use the $5 adapter and the usb that came with the phone and my car usb port?

Sorry for all the questions but I never experienced this before and it's my first Samsung product

I do know that you're not supposed to use a charge-only cable on a computer, only a wall/car cigarette lighter charger so I assume the same rings true for the adapter. I just don't know what it would do to your car port/phone, I take no responsibility should you choose to do otherwise. You said you had a cigarette lighter charger, I'd use that with either the grounded cable OR adapter, both are not required, only one. The USB cord that comes with phones is data/charge so you can use that with the adapter, you only need ONE of the products I mentioned. Either the grounded charger, cable, or adapter.

Like I said earlier, what is your charger rated for? If it is less than 2.1A I say get the charger and adapter I linked to above (no idea on shipping.) Otherwise if your current charger is 2.1A or above, just get the adapter (I think I paid $11 shipped.)

And finally, no problem with all the questions! That's what we're all here for!

I just bought the one that plugs into the lighter outlet. The reviews sounded great so we'll see how it goes.

Thanks again.

Let me ask you this. Do you know if there is a music app that does not start the song over from the beginning when you make a call? The LTE and S3 both do this for some reason but only pauses the song when calls come in. Any ideas?

I'm of no help here haha

If you look at Settings > Battery when charging, it will say "Charging (AC)" or "Charging (USB)". What is not clear to me is if the (USB) indication comes from measured power draw or recognition that the phone has a USB connection to a data source. Take a look at this when connected to your car charger.

Labeled as AC charge when using Palm Pre 12v charger from Sprint. Rated at 850 mAh.

So...new to this page, just doing research for when I get my SIII on Sept 1st. I did not know that you should NOT use a charge only cable on the USB port in a car. I'm not sure what the cable I'm using is rated at...it was just an old one I had lying around. How can you tell if it's charge only vs data too? Interesting since I've had recent problems with my car radio...what does a charge only cable do when plugged into the USB?

I'm using this Amazon branded USB A to Micro USB 6 foot cable: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B003ES5ZS...ag=hawk-future-20&ascsubtag=UUacUvbUpU2038332&

It's great because it doubles as a lengthy extension cord compared to the stock cable. I get full charging speeds (confirmed via stats, the Elixir 2 app and GSam Battery Monitor). It's plugged into the OEM boxed Samsung charger.

I've got two OEM HTC AC to USB adapters from my previous EVO's that I use as well. One by the bed and one at the office. Using the same Amazon cable with great results.

As for the car, I would strongly recommend this Motorola Micro USB car charger: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B000S5Q9C...ag=hawk-future-20&ascsubtag=UUacUvbUpU2038332&

It's the ONLY charger I have ever used on my devices that can actually charge raise the percentage of the battery while "fighting" the incredibly battery intensive GPS navigation.

I've measured the output of the Motorola charger using an amp meter and I get about 985 milliamps, or just short of a full amp.
