Battery

16 hours does sound great. I think I might have a problem with my battery then. I can only get about 6 hours of moderate use before needing a recharge. That's with the screen on dim and all of the other stuff off like wireless, gps, bluetooth off. Just last night I went to bed at 11pm with a nearly full battery and I accidentally left the gps on. At 4:30 am when I woke up the battery was in the yellow.

Let me know if anyone thinks that is not normal and if I should get a replacement.

Thanks,

Mike

6 hours sounds pretty bad, but check to make sure you're not having a runaway app. I use "Where's My Droid Power", it gives you a breakdown of what percentage of your battery is currently being used by each process. If your GPS is actually connected, it'll drain your battery in a hurry, but just having the toggle on does nothing other than allow the phone or an authorized app to actually turn it on and connect it. So that too could be a runaway app.

If it isn't, however, and that's just normal usage, then yeah that's pretty bad, I'd at least see if you could get a replacement. Just make sure you test it out first.

Thanks Cruiserdude. I keep an eye on any apps that are running and use a task killer often even though a lot of people say that doesn't do anything. I have never, ever got 16 hours of normal use. Definitely lucky to get 6. Guess I'll trudge on down to AT&T and see about a replacement.

Thanks again!

I'd die for 16 hours. I've had my device (International version) for over a week and I only get 7 - 8 hours with barely any use. That's with power saving on, GPS off, and mobile data off most of the day at work with wifi on but set to off while sleeping (unless connected to power) but bluetooth all the time as I use a headset:

Well, I finally convinced AT&T that I needed a warranty replacement and the new phone I got definitely lasts longer. Not 16 hours but it is definitely is an improvement. Guess I had a lemon.

Thanks for the advice,

Question!!

so since 16 hours is "top of the heap" is that on 4g all 16 hours? I am wondering because I get about 11-12 hours on 4G all day. ive been doing an experiment where I dont connect to wifi at work or school. my 11-12 hours consist of surfing the web and playing agent dash and other video games for 10 or 15 mins in between class. I also listen to Pandora for about 3 hours of the day. Is my battery good? Is 3 hours and 10 minutes screen on time good?

I think you should mess with some settings and get a couple app's to monitor your battery usage. I use GSAM Battery Monitor to tell me what's eating my battery as the stock battery app in the phone settings is wrong, and I use Juice Defender (free version) to help me conserve battery when it's not in use. My battery used to suck, but getting those and changing the following settings has made it so I can go 24hrs+ with regular (for me) usage.

If you use S Voice, make sure you turn off the wake up command. I think that kills a lot of your battery b/c the phone is always looking for your command. I also turned off syncing for apps that I didn't care that much about like Facebook and LinkedIn since I get email notifications anyway. Then I turned off my constant syncing with email to be every 15 minutes. I think I also adjusted a wifi setting to have it only connect when the phone is being used and not stay connected. I may have done another random adjustment or two, but I think those really helped my battery out. Before (on the same "normal" usage for me) I was getting about 12 hours of battery life. I'm sure this isn't news to most, but someone new to Android like me might get some use out of it.
