Battery

Why is the battery not reading the right percentage when charging??

My main guess? Motorola doesn't pay it's developers enough to care about battery readings. The OG Droid, DX, Droid 2 Global all have this problem. It most likely has to do with the way the OS rounds the actual current battery charge into the next highest 10. Which is most likely done for the ease of graphical representation.

Also, its common for the people running these companies to really have no idea what they are asking for. Hence why we wind up with locked bootloaders, massive battery drain on HTC, slow updates in the case of Samsung...

In conclusion, lets all have a moment of silence for the over worked Software Engineers of the world. :-\

I just checked my usage, and The Weather Channel app has used 34% of the battery in a little over 4 hours! Uninstall.

Day 2 of X2 with Motorola extended battery.
Use appears about the same as DX with the same battery.
Yesterday as not a heavy use day but by 9:00pm was at about 50%.
Need more time to really evaluate.
One negative, the X2 has a black back and the extended battery cover is gray (like the DX)....looks a little goofy.

I went to the a store in Boston, MA yesterday and picked up the extended battery for the DX2. I was shocked that they had it in so fast! I almost bought the one from androidcentral but they were selling the DX one because, as was previously said, it works fine.

Everything is thin, just like the DX extended battery, except.... the back looks the way it should! Dx2 logo and all!

First post on Android Central...might as well make it a long one! :)

The biggest drain on battery life for me was random apps (I think some people on here call them bloatware) running in the background that ate up some CPU usage. I put most apps on the auto-end list in Task Manager and that really seemed to do the trick. I have been getting amazing battery life since I started doing that plus the phone overall has better performance because of processing power not being wasted.

Also, something else I have noticed in the short time I've had my DX2 is that if your phone feels warm or hot that you are draining the battery at a pretty decent clip.

Thanks and I hope this is the first of many posts on here!

I did buy the one from Android Central. It doesn't come with the extended door that is required because from what I have read, the battery puts too much pressure on the screen with the regular door.

I ended up buying another extended battery from VZ, because they sell it with the door. Also, even with the door included, it was less expensive than the one I bought from AC.

My battery life has been a mixed bag with this phone.

I normally plug it in when the battery indicator turns yellow - 20%. For some time it wasn't getting to 20% for about 18-19 hours, which I was content with...happy actually! Then it entered a phase where it went TOTALLY WACK and was only lasting 2-4 hours before getting to 20%. Then it progressed to 8-9 hours or so before getting there. Right now it is still draining way too fast and seems hot all the time.

I just want to get back to the 18-19 hour thing!

Depending on my use with the phone in an area with decent service by the end of the day I have between 50-60% battery.. Depends how much I've played with it.

I have a totally frozen phone with almost nothing running so it helps.

I've had the phone for a week now, and after installing JuiceDefender on the lowest setting, customizing my battery and data usage to a minimum, and having my screen brightness to the lowest setting, I have consistently had more than 24 hours of usage per charge. I almost had 36 hours a day or two ago, and that was with light to normal usage.

I'm pretty happy with the way the battery has performed.

Alright, this is starting to piss me off now. I'm plugging in multiple times a day. It is aggravating. I looked at battery usage and the top user of battery is com.motorola.service.main at 26% (then phone idle, display, android system, cell standby and android OS). The phone seems to be hot most of the day too.

Today - 4.5 hours and I'm down to 20%....Grrrr...

Any ideas?

do you have a ton of widgets running?

do you have a ton of widgets running?

I do have several:

Fancy Widget - for a Sense like clock and weather
Calendar widget - of the Blur variety
Sound Profile Toggle
Internet Favorites Widget - of the Blur variety
2 Contact Widgets - of the Blur variety
Power Bar toggle widget - I think this is also of the Blur variety (gps, wifi, bluetooth, airplane mode)

If it's anything like the X, the brightness/autobrightness is always the biggest hog and there's no easy way to manually control it. Check out InvisiBright to fix that. Also, posting battery results are pretty much meaningless until the battery has had enough use to wear it in. First few times are always wacked for me.

My battery is broken in by now. Lately, either the display or com.Motorola.service.main are the biggest battery drains.

I usually use auto-brightness. What does your app do that auto does not?

I'm experimenting this weekend by trashing all of my widgets to see what effect this has on battery life. So far, I've found the effect to be minimal, but I'm trying a few different things and will report back if I discover anything useful.

Went from 80% to 70% after 2.5 hours. Not sure if that's good or not

Sent from my DROID X2 using Tapatalk

Bought the MOTO extended battery and it has been on for 12 hours and has 90% battery left with light use. Best investment that I could have made. Ran for 18 hours light to moderate use and still had almost 50% battery left. To me that is all that I need.

Deleted all my widgets (except my calendar widget) and even deleted a few apps that do a bunch of updating (twidroyd, friendcaster, etc...), as well as deleting my Facebook account from Blur. All I seemed to accomplish was somehow stopping my Gmails from arriving to my phone.

So I decided to start from scratch and did a factory reset...and voila! - - 21.5 hrs until I hit 20% from a full charge! Much better than the 6-7 hours I had been getting just before the re-set.

Now I will add apps back slowly and see which are the main offenders.

EDIT: ...and the phone hasn't been running hot like it was.

Standard battery... Rooted... Frozen bloat.. Tasker running some special stuff like auto wifi at home etc..

I've gotten 2 days out of the phone with moderate use and it going between wifi and 3G.

Any help would be GREATLY appreciated! Just got a Droid x2 from Verizon 3 days ago and the battery life is horrible. It usually lasts 3-4 hours before it reads 15% battery power left. This is with maybe 30min gaming/browsing. Any tips on this? This might be the best phone I've ever owned but it sucks that I have to keep it plugged in constantly. Thanks in advance for any help! Oh yeah and the thing runs super hot!
