I'm getting an EVO out of contract and I've been told, and have read, that it will be ~$600 at BB. It's only going to be $449 at Sprint. Will BB price match Sprint? I assume not, but I'm not sure why.

What about them price matching RS?

Radioshacks do not price match what so ever.

499.99 (with $10 survey coupon and 20$ accessory credit)

At least thats the law of the land in these parts, other regions may differ.

Yah, but does BB price match RS? Or even better, Sprint?

I would say it varies on the BB store, because you have to take into consideration they would be losing $150 in profit and not gaining anything. I used to work at BB and we never price matched cell phones for retail price or even if another retailer had a cheaper price. We had a Sprint store down the street and we didn't even price match that.

But why? On what grounds?

Because its about making budget for that day. If you take a smaller BB that that has a budget say of $40,000 for that day and you price match 20 htc evo phone to $449. they just lost about $3000 and goes against the budget. Its all about making profit at BB and thats it. Bigger BB stores might not have a problem with price matching the price, because they get more traffic.

Honestly, I wouldn't price match it unless you were going on a spending spree and buying all sorts of things.

Because the prices on cell phones are marked up well above retail price. If BB doesnt cell the phone as an upgrade or new service they dont make any money. So they jack up the prices to recover some of the cost.

Its been said many times on this forums about BB and Radio Shack. Why even bother with arguing this one with BB? The best bet is just to pre order the phone at Radio Shack. Most BB arent even taking pre-orders anymore, so no guarantee you going to get one. Radio shack is taking them up till 5/30 i think.

What's been said many times and who said anything about arguing this with BB? I was just curious if BB will price match RS or BB both have "brick and mortar" stores withing a couple minutes from BB. That's the only qualification I've heard of for them to price match.

Personally, while I hope to get my phone on the 4th, I'm not one of those who NEEDS to have it ASAP. In fact I won't even pay $50 more for it at RS. If Sprint is the cheapest then I'll take my chances there knowing I may not be able to get one.

I already pre-ordered at BB a while ago just in case, but I won't pay more than $449 for it. Was just thinking that maybe BB would price match.

Odds are most BB are not going to price match the cost of the phone. The phone will be showing $599 in BB system, if you can speak to someone and get them to price match it. Get it in writing and have them sign it.

It is a Best Buy policy to price match. It should be all Best Buys. I saw Radio Shacks $499 but I didn't see Sprint was selling it for $449. On the day of June 4th print something out that shows the price and take it in to Best Buy.

I believe they have a sign at customer service that has a detailed policy on price matching. I swear it mentions cell phone on that sign, but i am not 100% sure. Like I said i used to work at BB it depends on the store and management. You can look all over the internet and find information about BB not honoring the price match policy. Management can refuse to price match anything if they decide.

I had it out with both a BB local store and also with their Corporate Office. I don't want to make this a 2-page post, so I'll try to keep things short. Today during lunch I went into my local BB (6th Avenue & 23, NYC) and spoke to a young lady regarding the price match issue. She stuck to her guns and said that they would not honor the price match and that if the phone was being purchased off contract that the pricing would be $599. I told her that I had read their Price Guarantee policy online for retail stores and that NOWHERE did it speak of any exclusionary period due to a product launch, etc. I also stated that, according to their website nowhere did it state that mobile phones were excluded. As my interest was purely to gauge where the employee's head was at, after about 10 minutes I thanked her and left.

When I got home that evening, I called the corporate office and spoke to a gentleman who represents Best Buy mobile. I explained that I had physical documentation from their competitor (Sprint Retail Store) of a listed lower price for the EVO and I was interested in finding out whether they would match the price or not because there's been a lot of 'yes and no' answers flying and stated that no one should know better than corporate. This is where the man attempted to play semantics.

He suggested that I take my ad to the local BB and ask for the store manager and "SEE" if they would honor the price match. I challenged that response and inquired why should I have to "SEE"? I stated that BB is not a franchise where each store has the option to set it's own policies and again restated that since all stores are under the same corporate umbrella, coupled with the fact that I had the Price Match Guarantee right in front of me, that he should be able to answer my question outright. After I continued to press him and he could see that I had him cornered, he actually asked for my zip code and called a store within my vicinity for me to speak to a store manager. The store manager then also tried to give me reasons as to why they would not. I asked him that if this is their policy in regards to mobile phones or any product in general (he tried to also state that it was at the store's discretion), why isn't the exclusion stated in their Price Match Promise. Eventually he broke down as I also stated to him that he does not work for a franchise and told me that yes as long as I bring in the ad and provided the competitor has the phone in stock, they will price match. I was sure to get his name and the store that he works at.

Listen...in all honestly, I know BB will lose money for selling me the phone at Sprint's cost, but that's not my business....I could frankly care less. They use that price match guarantee as a marketing lure and in most cases it works to attract and build customer confidence, but it just so happens that every now and then you're own policy will bite you in the butt...and in this case it will. I will be getting my pre-ordered EVO 4g from BB this Friday for $449.99. They will have to just settle with making money off the accessories that I buy for it...CASE CLOSED.

P.S. Know your rights and stand by them...and if they won't budge, don't hesitate to call the Better Business Bureau!

Fyi, all businesses have the right to refuse sale. They dont have to price match if it means too large of a loss.

To claim the BBB has any care about the lack of a price match is just comical.

Prices are set to stay in business, I honestly bet the manager will not give you this price. He'll pretend you never talked to him.

Its more profitable for them to sell that phone on a contract than outright. Corporate would stand behind him as well.

Make a customers day and tell them "Oh we have one more Evo" , that said customer signs a two year contract, buys some accessories of which now bestbuy makes money every month from Sprint.

Vs

Making some loudmouth customer happy by losing money upfront and not making a dime on the monthly payouts for contracts given.

Its cold, but its the truth.

You can go on and on saying you'll call the district manager, regional, VPs, BBB, State Attorney, etc etc. In the end of the day it wont matter.

You have no rights when it comes to retail purchases other than the right to not shop there.

I work for Best Buy Mobile and I can tell you that there are cases where we can and cannot match a price. If you bring in writing the price from the Sprint store and keep a calm demeanor when explaining the situation you will have a better chance of the Mobile Manager making that case by case call. If you go in demanding they do things for you; your chances will be less likely they will accommodate the request. As others said we are in business to make money. There are instances where taking a small hit on the cost of a phone can still benefit us, so just be polite and the kindness is usually returned.

My local Best Buy is price matching. I had absolutely no problem or argument with this. It was a very simple yes. He just said that they would verify the price with a local Sprint store and that was that. It unfortunately sounds like not all Best Buys are on the same page about something that should be pretty well understood nationwide. This is a huge phone launch and there's too much at stake for all the stores not to be on the same page.

Bingo...

In the end all this may result in is BB getting rid of the Price Match Policy and everyone loses then.

I would respect if they never had a Price Match policy to begin with than to have a clearly defined price match policy and then have them look you in the face and give you barefaced lies and excuses as to why they won't honor it. It's a matter of principle.
