BBM for Android coming

to me, i would love to see BBM available because of the group chat. A good majority of us on our rescue squad had BBs and we all had a group to shoot the **** about whats going on. now were all getting away from blackberrys, losing that benefit.

As the BBM 6 beta came out this past week I would venture a guess and say that either with the final release of BBM6 or right after is when this _should_ be released. BUT, RIM is not one to push a product through without proper testing so the Q4 date still probably is the best bet.

As someone who just switched from a BB Storm to a Droid 2 I'd be more likely to say that everything RIM releases is done without proper testing. The Storm was only marginally functional at release and every new OS introduced new problems, and I'm not even counting the many leaks, just the official releases from the various carriers.

I've owned Treo phones, Windows Mobile phones, Blackberrys and now a Droid and I'd say that RIM is far and away the worst of the lot for releasing poorly designed, buggy and incomplete software and hardware. Which is probably why they had to buy a company to get a decent OS for their tablet.

I can't wait to see this app come to android, it's actually the only thing I miss from owning a blackberry.

This would make Android the perfect device, I am actually considering on going back to Blackberry when the 9900 releases primarily for BBM.

I'd not with back because of BBM! Google Talk is good for me. Love Android. But I did like BBM and I'd use it if it came to Android!

It would be nice if BBM could use google talk so I can video chat with the wife and kid.

As for BBM chat, I don't see myself using it.

Isn't video chat coming to Google Talk?

It should be, didn't Google just announce it? Besides, isn't Google Talk already pretty much like BBM... outside of having group chat?

Well, BBM has picture, voice clip sending features. Also has the D and R indicators for Delivered and Read. Plus it tells you when the other party is typing.

Oh, well...nevermind...lol. Suppose I should have owned a Blackberry before I spoke. :-P

It still boggles my mind that Google hasn't improved their gTalk app. gTalk already supports all the same features as BBM (sans the read status indicator), it's just the limitations of their native gTalk app for Android that stinks.

3rd party instant messengers bring those features to gTalk users (I use Trillian myself).

If Google put forth the effort to provide a competent gTalk app, gTalk would spread like wildfire.

Yes, if you are using a rom with 2.3.4 then you can use it. I'm running CM7 nightly 62 which is based on 2.3.4. I talked to her with it on the PC with my phone but the app wasn't available for her on Google's site. Just Google Voice.

As a former Crackberrian, BBM was the only thing that I truly missed about the phone. However, since then I have replaced BBM with WhatsApp, and had my friends (even BB users) download it as well. It still lacks the grouping features that BBM offers, but as far as text communication, sending and receiving all sorts of media, I have most of my needs met.

LiveProfile has been working out pretty well for me too. I use Gtalk more than anything now though.

Between LiveProfile and Kik, BBM is pretty much covered (for me). I also use the basic IM apps as well.

I do miss BBM Groups, though. We switched to a shared Google calendar, which (l think) works better than the Group calendar. I keep hoping LP or one of the other cross- platform systems adds some of the other BBM-like group features (shared photos, lists...).
