BBM going live shortly.

What a bunch of nonsense. After you download the BBM app, you have to provide them with your email address and wait in an a queue to be notified in order to actually activate the app, which takes forever. What a joke.

That's to avoid what happened before.

I preregistered... Got the email....downloaded and installed the app from samsung app store. And now after putting in my email address it says I need to wait as I'm in the line. Even clicking on the radio button that says 'I got the email' does nothing.....any advise or assistance please...

It might have gone live, but now its died! lol

Downloaded it last night no problem and signed in okay but didn't have a play with it until a short while ago. Joined a group, got a notification, then it crashed with "Unfortunately, BBM has stopped", and that's all I get every time I try to reload it. Good job I don't need it but it would have been nice to try it out! (undoubtedly my ****ty phone mind).

Need BBM to work faster? Do you have no patience for that email?
Buy a BlackBerry 10 device pre-installed with BBM with the ability of accessing channels/Voice Chat/Video Chat and Screen Share :)
Or just wait til you get the mail :)

I have it up and running. Samsung galaxy note2 at+t. Former bb user and already had my info submitted. The app is in the app store, type in bbm.You should only see one bbm, the manufacturer is listed as "blackberry limited.". This is the real manufacturer.
Working fine so far, got back some old contacts, lost some. They will give you a new pin number. Video is not supported at this moment and I have not tried a voice note yet.

What is the big advantage of BBM over say Hangouts, Yahoo, or any other messenger? What makes BBM so cool that people are all excited to try it?

Well, in my opinion,. Nothing exceed than other chat/messenger apps,.. And I'm not even excited.. :D
Even group and attached file, are just like other messenger..
I prefer WhatsApp for chat, Kakao Talk for their animated sticker, and Ninja Sms for encrypted message..

Thanks..

And if truly people's are downloading it (BBM), they're just trend of the month or year maybe..?

The options for Group Chat on BBM in my opinion far exceed the others.
Besides that though, I don't see the appeal, personally.

Beforehand, the advantage of BBM (or just using a BB altogether) was working through a secure network. I don't think that's the case anymore now that it's open to iOS and Android (and soon desktop, tablet, etc). I remember RIM had to shut down BIS in the middle-east because insurgents were using it to communicate and the US couldn't intercept it.

I don't see myself wanting to use Hangouts anyways, requiring a g+ account and the UI isn't nice either, I just hope I can continue using an alternative SMS app when SMS gets integrated into Hangouts. For now, non-SMS communication for me is Skype, works on all platforms.

BBM on Android is a little odd in small but noticeable ways (especially given it's an App for typing):
-"Copy Text" uses BB's design
-"Cut" is missing completely
-"Replace" is missing completely
-"Paste" uses Android's design
-When you "Copy" it's all or nothing - no way to select specify text

By comparison on iOS it uses the standard iOS design throughout all the points I mentioned.

Another few things:
-You should be able to skip to a new line
-There should be an option for automatically expanding/dismissing the keyboard
-Deleting a shared image locally shows the User that shared it a blank Image whereas I think the image should have cached so it shows a small preview (even if the image is deleted) the way it does on WhatsApp

Still a good first attempt just hope they update to conform more to Android design standards.

Why do people put up with garbage like this? Maybe I am spoiled from using an iPhone for so long, and I am willing to make a few compromises switching to android, but this is yet another frankenstein throw together (going by the cut/copy/paste points above)
THIS is why people are Always saying the iOS apps are better than android..well, because in cases like this... they ARE better.

I still don't understand why people will put up with "All That" just to have bbm ....

You do realize that BBM was just released for Android and iOS 2 days ago right? There are going to be some bugs.

For the record, people on iOS using the BBM app are having issues as well so don't think that we're the only ones having issues.

What I was talking about had Nothing to do with opening day "little bugs". I am talking about the frankenstein throw together that android gets.

This isn't a Bug. This is LAZY app making. throw together.. i.e junk
iOS may have bugs too, but at least its a consistent user interface with no missing pieces in cut, copy, paste function.
