Beaming only for "like" phones?

I was a VZN store and playing with the display model of the S3 and decided to beam a pic to it to test out the NFC. Using my Nexus, it chimed and vibrated but nothing else. No pic beam.

When I used an S3 display model with another display model. The beam of a pic did go through.

Now, has anyone tried this also? Is the beaming only to like-models of the phone?

The ICS version of Android Beam can't send as much information as the GSIII ICS TouchWiz or stock Jelly Bean version. That might be the issue.

If you were trying to beam from a Galaxy Nexus with JB to a GSIII, it probably would have worked.

I can't beam photos with my ICS Galaxy Nexus to anything (not another Nexus or an S3). But I did beam web pages to a S3 just yesterday.

I thought I read that Jelly Bean will allow the Galaxy Nexus to beam photos.

You need another jelly bean device to beam photos over. Beaming photos will not work with other ICS devices, as you may have found out.
