Best Android Phone for ~$350?

My Galaxy S4 is about 4 years old and is one sick puppy... often slow, with freaky lockups and bizarre behavior. I've been slowly disentangling a ton of contacts duplicated between my phone and Google (don't ask) for the purpose of doing a full reset.
I'm currently with Verizon but I want to get away from a CDMA carrier that frowns on phones not bought from them. To do that and to keep my company's 20% employee discount, I would have to go with AT&T. Can I get your thoughts on what you think is the best Android phone for ~$350. I actually need two phones so that's my budget. I'm learning toward the Motorola X Pure Edition. Can I get your thoughts?
