As of a few months ago there were only 618 types of malicious Android APK files. Stick with https://play.google.com/store/apps or other reputable download locations and it's not likely you'll need antivirus. torrents, warez and other slightly shady app repositories will have a higher chance of having embedded nasties lurking inside your downloads.

I use TrustGo
I also love the feature where you can track your from from your PC, remote lock/wipe, and back up all ur data...its useful plus its an anti-virus

You can try Norton or Kapersky. I have Norton. It comes with an anti-theft plug in that allows for remote lock and wipe. Some say not to use anti-virus as there may bloatware. For me, better safe than sorry.

I use Vipre from GFI. I have used it on my pc's for years and have never been compromised. They update the signature files 4 or more times a day. It uses very little phone resources or power. I believe there was a free version in the Play Store and you can purchase it online (have to search for Vipre (note spelling) for $9.95 per year subscription. The paid version provides cloud backup as well as several other very helpful features.

I agree 100%. If you're not rooted, then your risk of Virii/malware goes down about 90%. Unix based viruses are hard to write because the user is unprivileged. You're more than likely to see legitimate software doing not so nice things like Air Push. Those can be uninstalled along with the app that brought them. AV on your phone is only really going to do you a disservice though. However I will say that if it makes you feel more secure, then go with a trusted source like Kaspersky.

Android antivirus apps are useless... There, I said it. Now, there are components of those antivirus programs that are useful, helpful, stop global warming and help fee the homeless along the way. The management of a lost or stolen device is useful. Being able to remote wipe is useful, but those things are all available in very workable apps all by themselves. There has been much gnashing of teeth and fiery discussions concerning droids and antivirus that I won't waste anyone's time here repeating what they say. Do your own research, be careful what you install and where from, ALWAYS check the permissions before you click Install.

nice read mate, ill keep Zoner though as it has a tiny footprint.
AppBrain ad detector is VERY useful as it scans as you install and alerts of adware and permissions.
may uninstall AVG though.
i know how to avoid viruses but until google lengthen the refund period, ill still test cracked apps...
