best antivirus for android?

Bitdefender - Uses online Scan when apps are installed, or updated...does not tie up phone with un-needed files. But I would agree that if you just be smart in what you're downloading, it should not be needed. I like the Bitdefender because it does keep me protected, and the "lost or stolen phone" interface, similar to the one I was accustomed to on my iphone. (iCloud, Find iPhone App.)

I know this questions has come up and been answered, probably by those that make antivirus apps... however with the ever changing face of Android and new companies creating new apps all the time, is there a way to know what is the best antivirus app? also, what about having multiple antivirus apps on your phone, kinda like the top two to make sure you are really protected? yeah, I am one of those paranoid people new to android :)

I use Lookout. It is free but also offers paid features. I don't use the paid features because the free ones work for me. When I had iPhone used Lookout too and works great. I know the Play Store has other ones but not sure how those are. Check them out and see which one you like best and works for your needs.

Anti-virus apps for Android are useless, they cause more problems then they solve.
You do know that you DON'T need any antivirus for your phone right? The only thing that my friends and myself have ran accross is when you download something that rarely will your phone get hit with spam. Simple solution to this problem...........delete the app that's causing the spam. Antivirus apps only prevent this and use memory. My personal experience and opinion.............don't get one.
Yep and totally unnecessary.
Seriously? I'm asking because I hear both stories.
I am using Avast antivirus in my android phone. So, you can use this. This antivirus working well and offers good performance.
Doesn't Avast make an anti-virus for computers as well?

It's been proven they see legit apps as viruses, and let some through if you do manage to get one. They're just not needed to keep your phone secure, being smart is more than enough.

Granted, they aren't perfect in anyway. But even being smart a lot of the time is not enough since most viruses and malware that we get are on widely used applications like adobe products and java. So if you want protection when those go bad, you will definitely need some sort of anti-virus. I personally have found anti-virus programs to be super annoying and not necessary, but that was before I knew what I was doing and figured out how to configure them.

I m using Appriva cloud on my phone its working great so far and i would also recommend it to other people cos its great antivirus to have in ur mobile and i would say its a must

I use Avg it runs smoothly in background.

I use the AVG Free app on my S3. Being extremely shallow, I use this particular app because I like the widget that shows the mobile data use percentage for the month. I've never had a virus on my phone, mind you I can't pin that down to whether the app is doing a job or not!

i totally agree with what you said, but how do you determine where the malware is coming from? I had a worm on one of my previous droids from downlaoding too much, and pretty sure i have one on my current phone, but have only downloaded apps from the playstore, so anyways i would appreciate any advice on how to prevent this in the future

If you're downloading trusted apps on the playstore, not apps that were just added you shouldn't have problems. Maybe you're just overloading the phone with crap haha but I guess I never like keeping more than 30 apps on my phone at a time. Even then that's kinda pushing it...

I used to be an Avast user, but now i prefer mcafee. it performes faster and I don't have to plug-in my phone that often.

We would like to share our experience with ESET. Our team has developed an Android app which displays on the phone screen the device current location on a map. Several our customers complained that ESET pop-ups a notification that our app is dangerous. It was very strange and we check the app with other antiviruses like Avast, Kaspersky, AVG. Everything was fine, our app was working and we did not get any notifications from the antiviruses. However when we installed ESET it started to scream that our app is dangerous. We contacted ESET tech support and did not get answers on our questions.
We did a test to figure out ESET quality as an antivirus. It was easy to find a spyware app on Google Play https://forums.androidcentral.com/e...pps/details?id=app.phone.track&token=UV6CxJRM
ESET should catch it and notify us about the virus. However we did not get any notifications and the spyware app was installed successfully. ESET must catch it, but it did not!
From our experience ESET is real sucks and not an effective antivirus. We do not recommend to use it.
1. ESET does not catch real spyware.
2. It does notify users that regular apps are dangerous and users think this is a virus.
3. ESET customer support is awful. You will get automated replies and never get answers on your questions.
DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY AND DO NOT BUY ESET!

I use avast! mobile security. I use it for my desktops and their online account system is nice to have. The app itself is free and fairly light.
