I use MyPhoneExplorer. It is free and will backup only if you want, or will sync with several different platforms including Outlook.

Doesn't the stock Backup Assistant do it?

If you use gmail for your contacts, they're backed up and restored automatically. Pretty handy if you ask me.

Go to contacts press menu then import/ export to export to storage
