I went into Best Buy the other day and left with an S9.. I was originally going to get the new Sony Compact but once I learned of this deal I could not pass it up.

Phone price for the AT&T S9 variant = $789
Best Buy Deal discount = $300
Total = $489

Unlocked version is not eligible for the deal and it's carrier phones only. Also, in order to get the deal you must be on payment plans with the phone. AT&T Next for me.

Here is what I did. Took the deal and put $450 down. I then financed $39 through AT&T next. Went home, called AT&T and told them I needed to pay phone off so I could get it unlocked. Paid AT&T the remaining $39 and requested unlocking code.

BAM! An unlocked S9 for $489.

I think the sale is good through today..

this deal is still going on if anyone is interested. works on at&t/verizon/sprint

I wonder if the tmobile merger with sprint means we will get tmobile phones at Best Buy or just that Best Buy will only carry Verizon and at&t

I thought the whole point of these 24-month installment "deals" was to lock you in with payment credits every month so you can't pay the phone off right away and leave the carrier. Surprised you were able to convince AT&T to let you off the hook that easily by saying you needed to get it unlocked.

They didn't even blink.. I only owed $39 and I've been with them for 10+ years so maybe that's why...

You can also just log into your account anytime you please and pay phones off..

The BB deal is not a biil credit deal like the BOGO offers they have. It's their Next plan..

When I bought my iPhone X I put $700 down then a few months later I paid the remaining balance off and got it unlocked as well..

The thing with the Best Buy deals is that when they say $300 off, basically the $300 is a down payment, not monthly credit on your bill. So the only thing you subsidize is the remainder.

Correct.. So in my case BB put down $300 and I put down $450 so only $39 was left..

There are different promotions. Some are direct cut in price and some are bill credits which require 24 months to materialize the whole discount.

Sometimes they are combined like when I got the s9+ for $300 off plus $150 off. One was a price cut, one was a bill credit.

I get that. I purchased my Verizon S9+ with the $150 price cut at Best Buy back in April. All I had to do was sign up for DPP and I paid it off the next month. The $300 deal for a Verizon variant currently on promotion at Best Buy is actually through Verizon and thus requires a 24-month lock in with the monthly bill credits. That's what I was told at the store today.

Th OP did say that he purchased an AT&T variant so it may actually be a price cut for that model.

The way the BB guy explained it to me was that:

1. You have to finance something on AT&T Next to get the deal
2. Best Buy is basically making a $300 down payment on the phone
3. If you wish to put additional $$ down you can do so
4. There is no contract or lock in other than paying off what you've financed. *

* For me this was something like $1.60 a month for 24 months. I paid the remaining $39 off so I have no further obligation(s).

I think you got bad info unless maybe Verizon is doing it differently. BB put their $300 down, I put $450 down and I financed the remaining $39...

As an added bonus, I am a BB Elite member and I used my BB Visa to pay the $450. I'll get 6X the points for the purchase which will give me $55 in reward certificates once it posts.

I wish they did Xfinity Mobile too. I want to try that out but you can only bring an iPhone nothing Android.

That's exactly how it has worked for me in the past. Just did it on an iPhone 8 a month ago. This deal is so good that I'm having trouble turning it down. Just been on iOS so long that I'm not sure I can leave for a Sammy.

But the ad now clearly says 12.50 a month for 24 months at least for Verizon users?

The ad says save $12.50 a month for 24 months ($300). That's assuming you don't put any extra down and / or pay it off early..

I hope so but at VZW 12.50 a month MEANS you only save 12.50 for each month you pay so if you pay off in 3 months you only save 37.50 off of full price.
