Best Buy offering $400 off Verizon variant of Pixel 2 XL

I don't hate it because it looks me into Verizon... I don't plan on leaving them. I hate it because I like to update more often than yearly and if I do I lose some of the promotional money.
I feel you on that. I feel like the credits should stay as long as you're with them. Guess that's asking too much smh.

For anyone who may be interested, Best Buy is once again offering a $100 instant discount, in addition to the $300 Verizon billing credit, on the Pixel 2 XL. I took advantage of the $400 off promotion to order a 128gb model yesterday. While in the store, I had another opportunity to examine the display model. I thought the display color and clarity was excellent; and although it had a perceptible "blue shift" when viewed at an angle, it certainly wasn't something that I'd consider a deal-breaking "defect" for a device that functions so well.

I'm not a Verizon customer but I did notice in my local mall Verizon store that they replaced the big phone display area with S9s and related ads, earlier used to be Pixel. Looks like Pixel marketing push is coming to an end now that S9 is out and they will be the one with more marketing dollars.

It's sad honestly to think that these carriers control/influence which phones sell more, especially to the ones (majority) who don't keep up to date about all the phone related tech and news. Not saying S9 is bad or Pixel is bad but in general carriers have so much influence on what sells here. Absolutely hate it, look at Huawei whatever is the beef with US government but in general no carrier deal you are out. Personally I feel it just takes out competition and also promotes carrier junk.

That's my weekend rant I guess

So is it just me or does it seem like Google has no interest in selling the regular Pixel 2? My wife would love to upgrade to our camera but she doesn't like big phones so she doesn't want the XL. There's no way she be for paying full price on the P2 bc she's not a huge fan of how the front of the phone looks but if there were a sale like this she might reconsider.

It's not that they aren't interested, it's that they don't need to discount the P2 like they do the P2XL. It's the only small, powerful, super smooth Android device. Add in the awesome camera and FF speakers and it's rather unique in the market. And it's starting price is like 650 or so.

What I love now that I own this phone though (bought during this BB promotion) is that I KNOW it will receive quick OS and security upgrades. That's another reason I don't mind being semi-locked in for 2 years. (They did commit to upgrading for 3 years from the Oct17 launch date right?) With all the Motorola phones I've had the last 4 or 5 years it was a crapshoot when they'd get updated, if at all. Now I won't feel like I'm missing out on having the latest OS.
