Best Buy on 12/11

For what it's worth, I called the same Best Buy twice today in my area and two different employees confirmed they could sell it tomorrow. I asked if it was showing in their system that tomorrow was the day and they said "Yes." Is that enough for me to go? No. So I asked to speak to the manager. He confirmed he would sell it to me himself tomorrow morning. He also confirmed $299.

Now sounds great, right? I'm still skeptical as hell about it. I'm going to go first thing in the morning to meet with him so we'll see what happens. If it's at all possible (though Land Shark has pointed out in another thread they typically do), I'm going to see if they won't activate it. I've got a micro-sim from my Razr that will work. Other Best Buys in my area won't say it's for sale tomorrow. One said it's possible, but that's about it. This particular store may not know what's up, but if they sell it to me anyways and I can get it and not have to worry about anymore delays? I'm not going to turn it down. Here's to hoping I can come back tomorrow morning with a Nexus and answer all the questions you guys may have.

I'm sure these store managers are quite willing to sell these phones tomorrow, but I'm not convinced they will be quite able to.

Try it anyway, I doubt VZW will push out any further instructions to retailers before Monday.

I feel the same way, Jeff, but I'll be kicking myself in the ass if people here go and actually get one and I stay home and miss out. I will say that if I'm successful, no Best Buy will be safe from you guys.

I would, except I'm buying off-contract so its really an extra $150 to get the phone 4 days earlier...not sure I can justify that. I'm also not sure I can get them to match a price tomorrow (on the .01% chance they do sell it tomorrow) without an advertised $649 price from where else.

There is a BB leak saying 12/11 is the release date (the pic does say "in stock"). BB employees may be able to detail the meaning of that.

The in stock date in our system is the 11th, but that doesn't mean we can sell it. We have no authority to sell until VZW gives the okay.

Okay, i just called about 15 best buys with the usual answer until one of them i was on the phone for about 20 minutes and got a hold of the manager and he said we have 30 in stock and will be able to sell them to you on 12/15 so add that to the rumor mill

True. Good catch. I was proposing under the assumption that direction from Big Red to BB/3d party may be fragmentary; i.e., this is the last instruction BB has gotten, so they plan to follow it. Judging from some of the responses in this thread, they may be doing just that. We'll see.
