I purchased an S7 edge from Best Buy and paid full retail, not a monthly contract. It is probably my bad, but I assumed at that price and without a contract that the phone would be unlocked. I travel internationally a lot and needed to replace my Note 4. I am now in Africa and when I bought a sim card over here, it will not work. The phone appears to be locked! I have AT&T service in the states but did not buy the phone from them, but they did install the Sim for me as I did not have the correct size. Is it possible that AT&T "Locked" my phone when they installed my sim? If so, is there a way to unlock the phone so I can use it for the 9 months of they year when I am not in the USA?

All AT&T branded S7 phones are locked.
Search YouTube, there are a million videos on how to unlock he phone. I believe that you will have to pay though.

I think that osubass1 probably has the answer to my problem. I made the mistake of letting ATT install my new sim and they probably installed all of the ATT stuff that "locked" my phone to that carrier. I now have an $800 brick 9 months of the year!!

That's just wrong!!!!

If it's ATT branded and you paid full retail they will send you an unlock code. You have to request it on their website.

I requested an unlock code for my s5 after I got my s7. The s5 is paid off. There's a section on At&t's website to request codes. It took less than an hour to get the code emailed to me. You'll have to insert a non at&t simcard before it'll ask you to input the code.

Actually all you need to do is have At&t unlock it for you. I bought from at&t but paid full price, had them unlock it and now it is unlocked. Below is the link to request the phone unlocked, if they approve you, you get a code to enter when you insert a different sim card.

This is turning into a 3 ring circus with ATT. I found the place to request the unlock (Thanks to all that posted that suggestion). I sent them all the info and got an email pretty quickly saying that my account info is not in their system! I logged into my ATT account and made sure that the info I was giving them was the same as the info in my profile and resubmitted. In about 5 minutes I once again got a message that my account info is incorrect and they are unable to unlock my phone. But I can call them on 611 for further information. I am in Africa!! I wonder if i put my att sim back in and call 611 if I will get anyone and what will that call cost?

I finally go through to someone in the chat section. It took awhile for him to understand that this is not an att phone and that they locked the phone when they put in a new sim. He says he is putting in a ticket to higher support and I should get a response in a day or two.
