So...

I just called and they said that the current trade in boost promo for the unlocked ur 512 units will expire soon.... Regardless if I pre-ordered and regardless of my phone hasn't come in yet.

Well, there goes the extra $400 I was hoping to use toward the price.

I'm thinking about canceling and just ordering the 512 purple through verizon - my local store has them in stock.

Uggh...

I assume this holds true for carrier units as well. On the flip side...I've seen conflicting reports on basically everything concerning Best Buy Preorders at this point, and have low confidence in the knowledge of BB employees/reps so...who knows?

But I'm pretty sure if they stiff me on the trade-in I'll be cancelling my order altogether and sticking with Apple.

If Best Buy stiff you, you'll still deal with Best Buy but buy an apple, rather than stick with Android but buy it somewhere else? Why? It will be Best Buy stiffing you, not Android or Samsung.

1. Why do you assume I would be buying the next phone from Best Buy? Because at no point did I say that would be the case.

2. Why do you care how I, a stranger on the internet, spend my money, and more importantly what makes you think you have a right to try to dictate how I do so?

3. Actually, Samsung did kinda stiff me given that they didn't manufacture enough phones of the particular version I preordered to meet demand in a timely fashion. Verizon's got a good share of that blame too, though. There's plenty to go around. Switching carriers is not practical at this time for a variety of reasons.

4. I am currently an iPhone user. I'm not slavishly loyal to any particular brand or OS, and while I have been generally satisfied with the iPhone user experience, between the convenience of my spouse and I having the same phone (They got theirs as a gift) and my dissatisfaction with some of Apple's policies, I was perfectly willing to make the jump as I'm on an older iPhone that will probably fall into "forced obsolescence" either this year or next year. But if my phone's not going to get here in a timely manner and I'm going to lose the incentives that helped make the decision (bearing in mind that a new order at another retailer is not going to receive any preorder incentives either since the preorder period has ended, AND it's going to put me at the "back of the line" for receiving the particular model I want since all the orders previous to mine will need to be filled first...) What exactly do I have to lose by waiting to see what Apple offers up in the next month or so? I realize this is an Android forum, but does that mean you MUST be utterly devoted to Android or you're not allowed to post?

My BB is adamant any deals stay good for all preorders. If you got the preorder printout receipt, should be good.

Bulls1tt.... Of course deals will be honoured.... You will see plenty fake rumours the next few weeks on android related forums, get used to the annual apple hate android brigade

Yeah, like I said...at this point the odds seem 50/50 because we keep getting different answers from different employees, none of which really seem to know for sure (I mean, when I preordered the sales rep said they were getting a bunch of the Verizon Note 512s in on Friday...as far as I know they got none).

I just called a different best buy and they said their trade in promos are tied to the handset and are through best buy, not the carrier, and will NOT expire. You get that deal whenever the phone finally arrives.

That sounds right.

Anyway, next time I will probably just order via Amazon or B&H and not play Russian Roulette with trade ins and such via samsung.com or Best Buy and sell the phone on my own.

This is really the first time I've had any problems with upgrading through Best Buy, but normally I'm not trying to upgrade at launch. I think that's the lesson I'll be taking away from this: Always upgrade to something that's already in stock.

But then you may miss hundreds of dollars worth of pre-order bonuses. B&H worked pretty well for Note9 pre-orders: bonuses consist of Dex station and dual wireless charger from B&H, plus AKG BT headset from Samsung. Their inventory was delayed from the expected launch date, but they shipped only one business day late.

Sure, but I'm also probably getting the phone for less than the price it was released at since it'll already have been out a while.

To be clear when I say "in stock" I also mean "been out a while." I don't have to have the latest and greatest (though it's nice when it can be managed). Just a phone that'll last me a couple or four or five years.

Standard policy for best buy is that backordered items are good for 14 days and then they will be canceled.

So I'd imagine that 14 days after release if they still are not in they will just cancel your pre order.

I don't think it qualifies as "backordered" until they send you a shipping/arrival date estimate.
