Best calendar app?

I want to be able to see the info listed in the daily "square" and set my own ringtone for the reminder. I don't think that's too much to ask

Try aCalendar. Personally S Planner works fine for me. I can set the ringtone via Lightflow, and the expanded view is sufficient:
