Best Camera App for 6P?

I have a question about a Pro Shot setting, is JPEG 100 lossless? The JPEG standard supports a lossless mode (basically it just does Huffman encoding, the lossy compression modes use DCT followed by Huffman encoding). RAW is lossless however RAW pictures aren't recognized as photos by Marshmallow so they don't show up on Google Photos or Dropbox, JPEG is always recognized as a photo.

Nice find!

Yeah, I had always wondered how it worked... I could tell that it wasn't fussing exposures. Early on, it was pretty slow to process... and that really limited its use. Then.... I think it was version 2.5, they increased the speed considerably, to point where I could leave it on most of the time and flip it off only when I had to. If there's plenty of light, the shutter delay is near that of normal mode. And in darker conditions, they do a good job of processing things, avoiding any blurring or mushy details.

To be honest, I've played with the HDR modes on 3rd party cameras, as the mode on Samsungs and LGs, and HDR+ and a keen eye on where to set the exposure takes the best pics.

But GC still lacks a lot of the controls to exploit the new camera APIs, hence needing those 3rd party cameras.

Actually, the Nexus 5X and 6P have better or same camera quality than the S7 and S7edge.

I have tested my N5X against a S7edge, and the quality most the time its the same, and some the N5X is better.

If you demand high quality, use RAW file, thats the one I used in both Smartphones.

These are some photos I took with the N5X and Moto X Play:

I use ProShot app since is the only one that allow me to use a external pen drive as storage.

I have taken more quality phones on my Nexus 6P in 1 month than most time of owning an S6. The lack of OIS really freaked me out, but in fact I find I get less blur shots on the 6P. The camera has been awesome, a little slow to focus but workable.

I'll tell you one thing, once I figured out how to and learned how to use manual exposure, the Google camera app takes excellent pictures.

How do you do this using the stock camera app?
Quite easily actually. Using the new Google camera app, go into camera settings, advanced, turn manual exposure on. Then you're done. Now your viewfinder you'll see a plus, and minus option for toggling manual exposure. Have fun. It works pretty well. I hope this helps you out.

Awesome! Thanks for the tip.

Yeah surely. Now for some reason when I had my Nexus 6, I didn't have the manual exposure option whatsoever which was very annoying. You might also notice that with the exposure settings on the highest setting, and forcing HDR mode on, the. Turning the flash off, you'll get more natural looking pictures. I didn't believe that at first, until I went to take a picture last night with the flash in, and it worked out really well and looked really good.

I must be missing something, I don't see any advanced settings option in the stock camera app. What version of Google camera do you have?

I have the newest latest one found in marshmallow and Android Nougat.

The manual exposure settings is only available on the Google Camera from the N beta (not sure what the version is). The released app still lacks the exposure controls.

has anyone received an update that allows us to play with the manual exposures?

can anyone recall the camera version from android N beta that allowed this setting? thank you
