best compact smarphone

S4? It's old but there are so many roots and roms out there you could really make it fly! Otherwise moto g is a good option and I don't think it's too big.

Options are very limited. The 4.7" idol 3 is 179 and has decent specs. Very good battery life and great front facing speakers.

2015 moto g might be the best option if you're willing to get a 5" phone.
