Best confirmation of release date yet?

Marketing-wise... this has got to be a 10 day countdown to release. Why would Google run this promo now if they we not planning on releasing it around the 21st-22nd? It's absurd to think they would make this effort- only to release it in December- just doesn't make sense. Good vibes!

Here is what is so puzzling...its up to Verizon when the phone comes out, not google. This is a google led contest. Soo....

Verizon could have told Google when the release date was, thus Google starting the contest when it did.

But it is the verizon version of the phone, so verizon could have coordinated with google on this one.

It doesn't provide any model number or designation for which model. Being the ARV is 500 its most likely a 16gb model and from our leaks its the global one. Verizon will get a 32gb

Yeah-- I tend to agree. It seems that Google has been footed with the marketing bill on the Nexus. I've seen almost nothing from Verizon directly on this phone. Also the ad buy on internet banner ads for the Nexus over the last week or 2 are extensive. Those ads are EVERYWHERE! Stars aligning?

The nexus line was never really marketed by the carriers it was always google. Look at the nexus1 and nexus s, both had little to no advertising by the carrier.

I don't think contests like this have anything to do with the carrier. Samsung ran a similar contest with the U.S. version of the Galaxy S back in 2010 (though it was just a drawing, not a puzzle contest); at the time, some of the U.S. variants hadn't been released yet. If you won one of the unreleased ones, you just had to wait until it was released before you got it.

So I tend to think that this contest tells us absolutely nothing about the release date. The phone could come out before the contest is over, or a month after it ends. This is all about Google and Samsung drumming up interest and getting Twitter followers.

Well there was also contests like the bionic, charge, etc that ended right around the time the phone was released to carriers.

Google does ads on websites, but its very weak advertising. Sprint is the only carrrieryou actually advertised tthe phone, which is why it's probably the best selling Nexus phone model out there.

You also have to take into account that the nexus line was always aimed at developers so the advertising they do is perfect for that since most developers already know about it. If Google wants it to become more mainstream then they need to ramp up their advertising, if they do not then they can continue with the advertising that they are doing now.

The 10 day countdown seems like something Google would do, if they knew the true release date.

agreed. is the glass half empty or half full? i'm going with half full (again). i just hope that it turns out to be full once the 21st/22nd hits!

The contest is open to many countries. It could be a countdown to a release that doesn't include the US. Isn't the UK release set for the 21st? I'm not trying to be a pessimist. I want the phone and hope Verizon gets it soon but they'll get it when they get it. Having said that, I do think they will at least announce the date soon due to the training and GN cases in the stores.

Nothing more than the latest guess. The only thing that truly makes sense is that one day, Verizon will announce it, and then we'll know. My guess (and that's all it can be) is that we'll see it this Thursday on the 17th. Unfortunately, I have no secret unnamed source or wizometer to back this up.

IMO, knowing that stores have accessories and prices in their systems now is more an indicator of a very soon release, than any other theory out there.
