I am thinking of getting the Google Galaxy Nexus for use on AT&T. But AT&T or Google does not sell it on contact. The only option is the $399 unlocked GSM version on the Google Play store.

Anybody know if I can get the Galaxy Nexus for cheaper some place else? Does Google usually have any special sales on certain days in the year? Also why isn't this phone sold on Amazon Wireless.....Amazon usually has lower prices than most places.

I bought my Galaxy Nexus through Google Play. I ordered it Sunday afternoon and received it Wednesday morning via UPS. $400 is a lot for a phone, but you have to consider its not under contract through any carrier which I kinda like.

Buy it from Google. It will be the best deal possible. And it will have a 1 year manufacturer's warranty.

People need to realize that $400 for a phone is NOT a lot of money. The usual unlocked prices for a top-tier phone is $600-$700. When you're on AT&T paying ~$2400 for a 2-year contract, paying $400 up-front instead of $200 or $300 on contract is not at all a big deal.

If you're going to buy it full price, you should also consider leaving AT&T. There's very few reasons to stay with AT&T if you don't need a contract subsidized handset. When you can save $$ monthly using T-Mobile or an AT&T Prepaid MVNO, why stick with AT&T proper?

The customer support from Google Play is awesome, too. I don't know where Google found the people who are working their phones, but they're head and shoulders above the flunkies who usually staff retail stores.

I had to call in a few times to troubleshoot and eventually replace my first GNex. Each time, I got someone who A) owned it and B) knew how to work it. During my last call, the rep and I had a fine time talking about things I read on XDA.

Switching to prepaid isn't so bad. If you browse forums like this, OP, chances are good that you know more than any AT&T salesman would, so you can handle most of your own support. You know that Amazon sells stuff at a discount, so you're clearly smart enough to avoid paying retail markup. What's left to entice you? The Galaxy Nexus is a penta-band phone; it seems a shame not to take advantage of that versatility with no-contract service.

You can plan ahead for the cost of an unsubsidized phone. I opened a Blue Cash Everyday credit card last and saved up about $200 in reward dollars to put toward a new phone this year. I ended up paying ~$220 for my Galaxy Nexus, which is around what you'd pay on contract for a decent subsidized phone.

Consider Expansys. Same price as Google but free shipping and no sales tax. Got mine in two business days. And do move out of ATT postpaid plans as part of that cost is subsidies you aren't using. T-Mobile is working good for me. Their value plan has no subsidies.

The price difference between buying straight from Google and Expansys is only ~$40, which includes 2 day shipping. Definitely worth it, considering warranty claims will be handled about twice as fast and you're getting a U.S. phone that 3rd party insurance companies will actually insure. You're also guaranteed updates straight from Google (takju) for anyone not planning on unlocking their bootloader.

I bought from Google Play store. 399.99 and no tax here in OR. Excellent deal. MUCH MUCH better than when I first paid 700+ at launch. 400 is much more reasonable. :D

Don't get a US warranty though.
