Best Facebook Messenger-like SMS app? (with read later)

Hi,

I recently started using Facebook Messenger and love it - the interface is clean and simple, and the way you can easily read a message and then leave it until later is perfect for me... especially since I often use text messages as reminders for things

The problem is I don't really use Facebook, and I don't like how it constantly runs in the background and drains my battery, so I'm wondering if there is anything similar out there? Just a really simple SMS app, that lets me easily mark things to read later.

I know Facebook Messenger supports integration for SMS, I really have yet to notice a battery drain from using the application...
