Thanks for replying. Yeah, I'm sure you're right, plus sound quality depends on the type of file being played (mp3s being far from Hi-Fi).
The open source players that I've tried thus far use the same codec as the native android player uses which I think make them all sound alike with what I would describe as thin audio. Some of the paid players and ad-supported players have their own codecs and have richer sound. I wonder if there are any open source or totally free players that have their own codecs?
