Best Games

I just purchased a Nexus 7 tablet for my mom for mothers day. Finally got her to get rid of her DS and paying $10+ for games that she could get for free or 99 cents on Google Play. Looking for some advice or recommendations on the best games to load onto it. It's for my mom obviously and she likes more traditional games like Crossword puzzles, yahtzee, puzzle games, card games and stuff like that.

I would greatly appreciate any suggestions on the best games in line with what she likes. Other suggestions would be great too.

Thanks,
Rob

7x7

2 good word games and a good puzzle game.

All nothing special to look at on a tablet, but good games.

Here are some that mom might like. No zombies here!

Classic Words Plus - Very fun scrabble game vs. the computer, with many skill level and dictionary options. Can also use in play and pass mode. I wish Words with Friends had some of the features this has. A free version is available.

Words with Friends - It's definitely worth buying the in-app ad free option. Despite the typical Zynga Games annoyances (careful with other in-app purchases that only give limited uses before you have to buy again), this is much better than the official Scrabble version.

7 Little Words - Kind of a mix of anagrams, crosswords and word find games, so perhaps the perfect combo for your mom. Free, but additional word lists require purchase.

Hearts (by Karman Games) - There are lots of Hearts card games out there, but this is among the best (another one by AI Factory being perhaps as good). If your mom likes Spades, Euchre, or Canasta, they also offer those in the same style. Free version only, with unobtrusive ads.

Safe Trip or Not - This is a very well done and fun version of the card game Mille Bornes. Play against Android, not pesky humans! Free.

Unblock Car - I'm lousy at parallel parking, but with this blocking puzzle I can pretend I'm good at it, at least until I throw my N7 against the wall in frustration. Free.

Pool Bar HD Free - A well done pool game with excellent graphics and physics. It's not the most option-laden pool game out there, but play is among the most realistic. Another good option is called Pool Break (Pro or Lite). A paid, ad free version is available.

Backgammon (by AI Factory) - There are many backgammon games in the market, so I'm not saying that this one is better than others (some cost more than $7, so I'd assume those have superior AI). Still, this one seems nicely done, especially for an occasional player. A paid, ad free version is available.

Naval Clash Admiral Edition - An excellent rendition of the Battleship board game, using retro, paper-like graphics. Play online opponents, a local opponent via Bluetooth, or the computer. When I first installed it on my N7 last year, the graphics weren't quite setup right for the N7 display. I contacted the dev (in Russia), who then sent me a couple versions to beta test for him. Once he had it fixed, he published the corrected version, so it was kind of cool to be a personal beta game tester specifically for the N7. A free version is also available.

3D Bowling - This free simulation looks and plays well on the N7. There's no online play, just single or pass and play, but I think it plays better than other bowling games.

Mini Golf Matchup - Play online friends or random opponents on fun putt-putt golf holes with cartoon graphics. I deleted this a couple months ago because it was too glitchy, but I guess the dev made many gameplay improvement, because now it's fun to whoop my sisters! It's worth the in-app purchase to get rid of the ads, in my opinion.

Dice with Buddies - Really well made Yahtzee game, played against online friends or random opponents. Excellent messaging capability, and good notification system. This is by the same dev as Mini Golf Matchup, so the two apps have the same, clean look. A free version is available.

Phrase Friends - This Wheel of Fortune concept game lets you play online opponents. It's pretty well done, but they've been tweaking the graphics quite a bit recently, not necessarily for the better. A free version is available.

Paplinko - Okay, I got this free game only because doing so got me free coins or whatever in another game. I was going to uninstall the stupid thing right away, but somehow got addicted to it instead. It's a mindless Pachinko type game, where all you do is drop balls to get prizes, points, puzzle pieces, etc. Unless, that is, you get addicted to it and start figuring out strategies to get higher scores, points, etc., and start unlocking more ball faces and backgrounds. What a waste of time!

And finally, the following are very leisurely games, with wonderful graphics that look great on the N7, lovely music and sound effects, unique gameplay, many levels, and just enough strategy and puzzle solving to keep it challenging, but not too frustrating:

Cogs (demo version available) - https://forums.androidcentral.com/e...tails?id=com.lazy8studios.cogs&token=J5ILJd3-

Osmos HD (demo version available) - https://forums.androidcentral.com/e...s?id=com.hemispheregames.osmos&token=-PSohh6A

Spirits (demo version available) - https://forums.androidcentral.com/e...ls?id=com.spacesofplay.spirits&token=lhqO27f4

World of Goo (demo version available) - https://forums.androidcentral.com/e...?id=com.twodboy.worldofgoofull&token=sqDWJRY-

Zen Bound 2 - https://forums.androidcentral.com/e.../details?id=com.secretexit.zb2&token=2SrusEm_

This should get you started. And don't forget the Mother's Day card!

I second the suggestion of 7 Little Words and World of Goo, but also suggest Triple Town, Auralux, Eufloria, Clay Jam, Gem Miner, Pottery, and, of course, everyone has to play Angry Birds and Bad Piggies at least once. :-)

If she likes card games, I suggest HW Solitaire. There are a lot of different card games baked into one and it has a very smooth and polished interface.

For some reason I am not finding that game in the store. :-\

WordzUp is a nice version of Boggle.

Very big thanks for the recommendations everyone. Got 48 games/apps. She should be satisfied with at least something I hope lol .

What's wrong with zombies? If she likes "classic" Sim City, then Rebuild is perfect.
There's nothing wrong with zombies. Zombies can bring smiles and add a lot of lifelessness to games. But based on the OP's description of the types of games his mom might like, I thought it was better to go zombie-less, especially for mother's day.
