Best low-cost ATT option with the signal strength of their regular contract plans?...

My sister just signed up for Tmo yesterday, we're unsure of how her coverage is so if it still doesn't work out after she receives her N4 she wants to look into alternatives but around the 60-70 price and we know regular plan Att coverage in her area is very good.

Not sure whether that's Gophone or an mnvo that would offer her the regular att experience. She only needs 2GB data, ulmtd talk/text.

So i guess closest equivalent to regular att coverage for voice and data for the $70 price range.

thanks.

AT&T will keep their postpaid experience for the postpaid users, but they have strengthened GoPhone recently to where it may be good enough for your sister's needs. Also, check out AIO Wireless, which will do a nationwide launch soon (mid-September).

Net10 is a good option. It runs off of AT&T towers. Make sure you get the Net10 AT&T sim (as opposed to Net10 T-mobile sim). If you set up auto pay then its $45 a month for unlimited talk, text, and 1.5 GB of data. I couldn't get T-mobile coverage in my home with my Nexus 4 so I had to go with an AT&T mvno and I've been quite satisfied with with Net10. Throughout the threads on AC lots of people are satisfied with Net10 with their N4 but lots have posted difficulties as well. I guess I'm one of the lucky ones. NET10 Wireless

There are a lot of options for AT&T mvno's and its kind of hard to know for sure what works and what doesn't until you try it, which unfortunately means you might prepay for a month of service that doesn't work for you and you can't recoup the expense. Aio wireless would probably be a safe bet come mid-September Aio Wireless ; there are others: Red Pocket mobile Go Red Pocket | Unlimited cell phone plans | Prepaid wireless phones ; H20 wireless https://www.h2owirelessnow.com/pageControl.php?page=index ; Airvoice wireless https://www.airvoicewireless.com/ . Sims cost about $10 on the carrier's website, but you can often pick one up off of eBay for as little as $1. Customer service with all these discounted mvno is the major drawback because you are largely on your own when it comes to troubleshooting. I think the biggest benefit of Go Phone would be to have a brick and mortar store available if you ran into problems.

Edit: I never had regular AT&T coverage so I can't compare to that, but so far as I can tell voice and data has been very good.

Red Pocket is good, but H2O Wireless is not so good. Red Pocket had decent customer service. Device troubleshooting is up to the customer, but Red Pocket helps with as many issues as they can.

Edit: these MVNOs don't offer access to AT&T's LTE data network.

Just go with GoPhone. For 2gigs a month plus unlimited talk/text is only $70 a month. I hear good things about them. I might switch over soon.

Just a correction that GoPhone unlimited talk/text and 2gb per month is $60. You can add another 1gb for an additional $10.

I used to be on AT&T postpaid till I switched to aio wireless. I've had it for four months now and its not different from my regular AT&T coverage. Just cheaper. Aio also actually has customer service unlike the others.

Aio Wireless is actually a company that is owned by AT&T.

Keep in mind that GoPhone and some of the MVNO/reseller carriers do not have the multi-carrier coverage arrangements. So if you want AT&T coverage, look on their maps and dismiss everywhere it says "Partner Coverage", because those won't work at all.

AT&T around here has LTE where they have coverage (in a lot of places), and are partnered with T-Mobile and a few other smaller local carriers to provide "Partner" coverage. Where I spend 90% of my time, AT&T's native coverage is fine. But the other 10%, I still need coverage.

If you're in an urban/metro area, you shouldn't have a problem with any local carrier. Get out into the suburbs or the sticks, and you'll find yourself looking at a red X a lot unless you go with a multi-carrier coverage agreement, which the big carriers reserve for their postpaid plans. You'll be able to make 911 calls, and that's pretty much it.

aio will be folded under the cricket brand after the sale of cricket to att goes through. much like metro pcs being bought by tmobile. cdma will be gone over a period of time , replaced by gsm/lte/hspa+. aio does throttle back both lte ( 8mb) and hspa ( 4mb) speeds. not worth saving about $5 a month imo.

Oh yeah I agree. I hate throttles and overages.. Hence why I'm on T-Mobile :).

I have the GoPhone plan and very happy with it. My buddy has a contract plan with att and has the same coverage as I , so far. Tmobile doenst have a very large footprint so I dont see too many instances where roaming would be necessary. No commitment with prepay, so doesnt hurt to try. GoPhone is also supported by att so you can go to a att corporate store and purchase a sim.
