Best place / program to backup phone --Newbie question

Looking for advice for best place or program to back up phone contacts / docs / etc. I do not like the Motorola options and not sure how to do backup to Google. Any helpful advice would be appreciated. My wife and I both have Razr Maxxs, and are on 4.1.2 JB (just updated a day or so now). There are lots of helpful people here.

Contacts, just let Google do it... put all your contacts in a Google Gmail account and they will always be there, no matter what Android phone you use.

Docs... I'd probably use Dropbox... you can store stuff on your phone and it will put it in the cloud. And they have a PC app which you can use and see the same documents. Works with ringtones, documents, images, almost anything I can think of.

Thanks and I have been putting contacts in as Google contacts. That Motorola BS is for the birds. I appreciate the feedback and will also look into Dropbox as well. I am retired as well as of 7/31/12. I sure like everyday being a "Saturday"! LOL
