I'm sorry if this question has been asked before, but I searched, and didn't come across anything. What program is best for this screen? A while ago, I found one that was apparently configured for this screen, and it was on sale for something like $5.00, but I haven't been able to duplicate the search that brought it up. It was also apparently one of the popular programs for this sort of thing. Does anybody have any suggestions?

I've installed it, but it seems like it is set up for the iphone. What do I have to do to optimize it for the Droid X?

You definitely want to use Handbrake its the best and its free. If you have any problems using it post back and myself or someone will help you im sure.

Download HandBrake

Nice app, surprised I haven't heard of this before, I just did a test file and image quality is good and plays perfect in full screen on Meridian Player (Smoother playback than DVDFab files and free!!! Big +++)... Looks like I will be doing some filtering tonight.

Thanks

Handbrake settings

Ok so in handbrake first you want to go to Tools>Options> Debug Tab make sure that "Disable Resolution Calculation for "None" and "Custom" modes." Is CHECKED

Now Go back to main handbrake window. Select the Picture tab and where it says Size you want to make sure the Anamorphic drop down box is set to NONE.
Then uncheck the Keep Aspect Ratio box. In the width box put 854 (the left box) and in the Height box put 480 (the right box). Youre done with that tab.

Go to Video Tab make sure that Video Codec drop down box says H.264 (x264). Then over to your right there you will see the quality settings, click the dot that says Constant Quality and set that at 35% (closest you can get is 35.29%). Your done with that tab.

Last setting is to go to Audio tab and in the bitrate dropdown box select 128.

You have all the settings done now so on the right side of the main window you will see it says presets, at the bottom click add and Name It DroidX click add and youre done!

Let me know if this helps or if you have any problems.

I included suggestions in the Stickied FAQ. My personal favorite is DVD Catalyst. The makers of this program have said the pre-configured settings for the Droid will work with the Droid X, and based on my experience I wouldn't disagree.

I was wondering if you used the presets when you used this app, I just tried and filter one of my videos and for some reason the audio and video is out of sync also out of curiosity which player are you using as well. Just trying to isolate the possible play back issue because I bought DVD Catalyst awhile back for my WM device but decided to use another app and only used it once or twice. To my surprise I found out my license I bought then allowed me to upgrade to new version for free.

Yeah I use the Droid preset, per one of their blog posts. Also, I use Act 1 to playback videos since stock video players tend to have the syncing problems you described, regardless of the app I've used to do the conversion.

I played around with Handbrake for a while, but switched over to DVD Catalyst and ended up liking it *alot* more. It costs a bit more, but it's well worth it.

Ok that explains my issue, glad it wasn't just me, ACT1 is new to me but looks nice but I decided to play them in Meridian Player before I bought a new player and Meridian Player was able to play file flawlessly also, so if you like to check it out look hear Meridian Player Android App Review by AndroidTapp.com | Android Tapp. Android App Reviews, there's a free and pay version got 2.99 that I got because I love the widget player and it support audio and videos as well as edit ID3 and plays FLAC files.

Meridian looks nice! I'm always up for checking out a new app, so I'll give it a shot.

Let me know what you think, I have been using it for a bit a it has allowed me to replace a number of my players with this one. I found this researching a Android version of TCPMP Player and I was forced to give up on Rock Player because developer was asking to much for just a player. Cant see myself pay 10.00.

I'm glad this thread was started. It got me thinking about setting up for DVD transfers to my DX, which I had been ignoring up til now.

I tried Handbrake, but my laptop spit up badly with it. Not sure why, and it may not have been Handbrake's fault, but I simultaneously tested DVD Catalyst on the Desktop, and was quickly sold on it. I didn't spend any time or energy trying to resolve the Handbrake issue, and removed it.

I first tried the Catalyst Trial version and transferred over a couple of DVD's to the DX, or actually the 25% of the movies that the trial version allows, and then purchased the full version. At $10, it's a bargain, as far as I'm concerned.

Looks like I just found a new keeper app. DVD Catalyst has advanced alot since I last used it. It matches resolution perfect and file sizes are not much larger than my older files. Also i love that i can filter videos from video iso files without burning or uncompressing.

Thanks for bringing this app back to my attention.

Subscribed to this thread so I can go through it later. I have a Fascinate but I assume this would all work for me, too. Anxious to put some 24 on my Fascinate- but wonder how much it'd drain my battery. What app would you use to actually play the videos on the phone, then?

Has anyone found a solution to the audio/video sync issue yet? I tried Handbrake (after about 6 DVDs it simply wouldn't stay open - uninstalled, reinstalled, still won't work), and then I installed Catalyst. Catalyst seemed to work pretty well, but still have the audio/video sync problems. Any ideas?

DVD Catalyst also has a free app called DVD Catalyst Free. This version is not a trial that only records 25% or your movie. You can download the version for your particular phone and it's the full app, minus a few configurations items that your more anal types my like. It's a billion times more simple to use than HandBrake (I thought you needed a film school degree to run this app).
