This is one of the most discussed topics in android forums.
I am interested on discussing about promoting an Android Game.
Have you tried any ad network and what are your suggestion? What are the advantages of each one?

AdMob, AppBrain, Facebook or.....something else?

I'm not sure which one will work best for you.
But I'm sure there'll be other members that will offer some insight.

Tried admob for an app but it was quite expensive (about 0.5$ per install).

I have heard nice things about Facebook ads but not tried them personally.

I've just started to try Facebook ads and the first impressions are not good. I'll post again if this changes in the next few days but I think I will stop the campaign.

AppBrain have a lowerest price in the market. You can configure it to 0.2$ per install and check only country you want.

AdMob is quite expensive in some countries, but it's very good for promotion in your own applications.
We think about Chartboost. Have anyone tried it? Do you share your experiences?

We have tried Facebook sponsored post with game and sponsored likes for funpage. In fact, we have got many likes in short amount of time but it deosn't mean a lot of downloads. So we will try to promote Maggot in other way for sure.

I am trying appbrain now and will give feedback in a few days. Currently i have no data shown on page yet.

It's hard to reach a lot of users in top tier country at Appbrain with price 0.2$. Here is stat for last 7 days:

I've done three - AdMob, UnityAds and Appodeal. Appodeal is new and I've got to be honest they're my favorite of the three.

Things to be aware of with Appodeal
- Appodeal is an aggregator of networks so you get pretty much everything meaning a higher fill rate (they boast 100%)
- Since they aggregate it takes a few extra seconds to get access to videos (they're server has to poll the system to find the right ad from the right agency) so if you're showing videos the second the app loads up (which I hear is frowned upon anyway) you might not get anything on that request
- They're brand new which means they're sales folks are pretty good at working with you. They're also trying to get more users so they may promote your app in their social feeds.
- They're pretty responsive to tech issues / coding problems. They've helped me out a number of times. This is huge if you're not a great coder like me.
- I've made way more money with them than the previous two. And they don't have a payout limit.
- Integration was easy...real easy.

I gave ads to admob but it's not a good way for edvertising they are writing 4000 click on advertisement but there is no productivity there

we also use Appodeal in our "Battle" Series games. as SimpleMinds say, they're better than, say, Admob alone. Integration is easy and thus far we're very happy with the ecpm deliverd by video ads and in most cases with interstitials. ecpm on banners is low, like on most networks.

For the US for instance, we have an ecpm of $8.82 for video, $6.98 for interstitials and $0.91 on banners which is, quite frankly, awesome.

Found this thread useful. Just want to share that relying on facebook friends to share will not be an effective way. I have considered paying for ads but still struggling as my game is now for free.

You've tried it for paid apps or only free of charge?

AppBrain have a lowerest price in the market. You can configure it to 0.2$ per install and check only country you want.

Do You mind only free apps or paid?

I tried to promot my game through Admob and Appbrain. While Admob is pay per click, Appbrain is pay per install, which in the end is way better.
For example, with Admob, I did a quick test, and spent 8 $, which gave me 0 installs. With the same ammount, on Appbrain you can have up to 40 installs (0.2 $ per install).

But let's face it : promotion requires money. If you set your Appbrain campaign to spend only 0.2 $ per install, you'll only get installs in countries like Pakistan, India, Egypt, Saudi Arabia.... only countries from which you won't get money. I you want to get installs form Europe or USA, you need to spend at least 0.8 $ per install... if you are patient...
If you want to obtain more that 2-5 installs/day from Europe and USA, you'll spend far more than 1 $/install.
