Best Remote Desktop Connection App

Hi, all.

I want to be able to access my work desktop from my Nexus 7, and was wondering what apps others use for this. So far, it looks like AnyConnect is a good, cheap, and easy answer for my VPN connection (though I'd love to hear if others love some other app). But, I've found quite a number of apps that are for Remote Desktop Connection, any recommendations? Free is great, but I would be willing to pay for it if there is a lot of value added.

A long time ago, I picked up Splashtop from the Amazon Appstore for free, but that seems to need a program running on my work computer, and that's not an option for me. Remote Desktop Client by Xtralogic appears to be a good option from the reviews and description.

Thanks

I'm a VNC user, so I run TightVNC on my servers. But if you can't install software and RDP is running, go with PocketCloud. When I was using RPD, I initially went with SplashTop, but had some issues with it. I switched to PocketCloud, using the built in RDP and it was great.

Here's the link to the free version. They also have a pro version.

I don't mean to hijack this forum post, but I am looking potentially for a similar solution. I wish to access my PC's media files from mobile internet, and will likely require a remote desktop or something like it.
My phone, Samsung Galaxy S3 has a built in VPN option. Would this be a starting point for setting up a VPN with my computer for direct connection? Thanks!

Hi. Below is a copy of something that I posted in another thread. The second paragraph might partially answer your question:

To simply stream videos from my computer using my local WiFi network, I just use BS Player. I think MX Player also does streaming now. To use a different media player or for audio, you can also stream using a file explorer app, like Solid Explorer or ES File Explorer. You just need to share the appropriate folders on your computer.

I also use BubbleUPnP. This let's me stream from my Nexus 7 to my LG TV that has DLNA built in. This is a nice wireless solution if the movie or music is on my Nexus 7 instead of my computer. It also allows me to stream from my computer to my Nexus 7 even if I'm not on my local WiFi network (so if I'm half way around the world I should be able to use my Nexus 7 to watch movies stored on my computer) . To do so, you also need to have a DLNA server (I use the free Serviio) and BubbleUPnP Server (free) installed on your computer. There are some limitations to this unless you get the paid version of BubbleUPnP.

I'm not sure if this information applies to your needs, but perhaps it will be useful to someone!

... But you did hijack this post. You should have started a new thread with your question.

As to the OP, I use VNC for managing several PC's and my servers that have graphical interfaces. Paid versions allow for file transfer and remote audio. Neither means much to me as I use secure FTP for file transfer and I have no requirement for remote audio.

I shelled out for LogMeIn Ignition around last Christmas. It works very well, but is pricey.
