Best SMS/MMS app for the One

What's wrong with the stock messaging app? It handles group message and has a great UI, its one of my favorite things about the One

When I send a message, it takes 3-5 seconds to appear in chat window & my message I typed in my box takes another second or two to disappear. ANY ONE else having this issue?

yepp don't really notice it all that much though

I was using textra exclusively, and loved it, basically I loved the popup when you were using the phone and someone sent a message. but yesterday my wife sent me an important message, for some reason textra didn't receive it and the stock messaging app did. Don't know why this happened. So switched back to the stocker. Lost the cool popup, but seems more realiable.

I have noticed that a few times with Textra. I also noticed that if I am reading a text and another one comes in then I will get a ghost notification about 5 minutes after I have read the second text and closed out of Textra. Of course when I open Textra back up there is not a new text. I also don't like the keyboard popping up on every new text. I might just go back to the stock app also. Really I'm only using Textra for the multiple notifications if I don't hear the first notification with a new text.

Default for the win. I used chomp and handcent for a while for emoji support but after that I decided I could care less and I enjoy the default / stock SMS app so much more.

settings > default for notifications > auto show popup > deselect 'yes + keyboard'

I already have this setting at "no." My keyboard pops up every time I get a new text. I uninstalled the app and reinstalled and I get the same thing. But thanks for the suggestion.

Edit- Don't think I explained my problem right. I'm not getting the keyboard on my screen as soon as a new text comes in. What I should have said is when I am notified of a new text I swipe down on the notification icon. Then I tap the new text message to open the new text. It is at this time that the keyboard pops up along with the full new text. I can't find a setting to open the new text without the keyboard popping up. I can't find a setting in Textra to disable the keyboard when reading a new text. It's enough of an annoyance to me that I might switch back to the stock messaging app. But I do love the multiple notifications of Textra.

The one thing I really hate about the stock messaging app is that it often gets wonky and stop showing profile photos or background wallpapers... Thanks to the suggestions here I'm now a happy Textra user :-)

Textra user here. Definitely like it the most from what I've tried. Fast as hell. Love the pop-up window, love the swipe notification feature that marks it as read. Just a great app.

And if you email support they're quick to reply.

My only issue with it was that if you send an MMS from the stock app, it doesn't show up in Textra. And my wife had trouble receiving picture messages that I sent with Textra.

It's amazing! I've tried the all and even paid for some but this is the ONLY one that has shown GIFs that were sent, and not shown "no subject" from my group messages! I just got it today but I'm already in love! <3

Which app are you referring to, please?

I just downloaded Textra after reading this thread, and I am very impressed. This small dev team put together a very comprehensive, well coded app that includes pretty much every option that most people would want, and it works flawlessly so far. From the looks of their changelog, they are very active and quick to respond to user suggestions. Makes Google look like a bunch of numbskulls with ther long awaited Hangouts! I really wanted to use Hangouts as my SMS app, but the lack of options and some annoying implementation irked me so much I had to try something else. Definitely not looking back!

I was happy with the stock app. I don't use it much but now that everyone here is going on about textra I feel I am missing out.

Edit: can't block spam. Deleted.

You get spam in texts? Man.. You need to watch what you sign up for with your number :P.

In Argentina we do. There is a new law in the works now that will prevent companies from sending unsolicited sms. It is not my fault most of the time it's the same carrier that gives your phone number away. It was the same in the UK if not worse a few years ago.

Anyhow I used to get about 2 our 3 a day with my iPhone since I bought the One and started blocking them I now get 1 every two or three weeks.
