I have a note 10.1. It's great and much more convenient than carrying paper notes. I don't really carry a backpack to most classes anymore, especially since professors these days love PowerPoint's. It really does save time and paper.

You can get a Surface RT fairly cheap these days. Has MS Office, and "inks" well with an Adonit Jot Pro stylus. With keyboard, s/b way less than $400. And when you have time to game, it works with a USB or wireless Xbox controller out of the box. I play Halo: Spartan Assault and Asphalt 7: Heat on mine. HDMI out to a big screen, and you've got a full on game console!

And just my opinion, but I'd stick with a 10" tablet over a 7" or 8" for your needs. I love my Nexus 7, but I find it easier to be productive on a 10" tablet. YMMV.

i hate the 10 inch form factor, but it is indispensable for one thing: reading pdf's. imo, pdf's do not render well on a smaller screen.

in fact the ONLY time i break out my transformer prime, which is a 10, is when i am reading a pdf ebook.

Haha not sure what kind of university you go to but our campus is pretty safe, and I don't spend much time on campus anyways. I go to class then leave.

To me, it's not about honesty, but more about convenience. I tried carrying an iPad around in my hand and it was just troublesome for when I needed both hands. Can you imagine trying to carry a tray of food with a tablet or laptop tucked under your armpit? And it's just another device waiting for you to forget and leave behind, IMO.

I have the Samsung flip case but that's it. I go to class use it and I leave campus right after class. If I did stick around campus I would take a backpack but it's rare that I ever do.

I keep a pen in my pocket incase there's a random extra credit assignment in class, which is rare. I can always snag a piece of paper from someone sitting next to me. But this is rare. The nature of the class is PPT based so really all I need is the tablet. They are just lectures and not much more. Now if it is a class more participation based I would bring my backpack.

When I first got the tablet I would bring it in my backpack along with a bunch of other supplies. I realized I barely ever used anything besides the tablet so I just stopped taking everything. I guess it's just preference

Same her I would stick it in a tablet case or something. Straight naked walking around is not for me. But its his tablet he can do what he wants with it.
