best time to up the data?

Is there a best time to up the data amount during the cycle to avoid getting a big next bill on postpaid? Only have a few days left on the current cycle so not sure when would be best. To avoid extra prorated charges would it be best to have it start next bill cycle?

You could try asking your carrier, but the 1st or 2nd day of the cycle would increase the price for almost all of the cycle, while giving you increased data for most of it. Increasing it a day or two before the end of the cycle should give you a small prorated increase - but some carriers (or MVNOs) may increase it for the entire previous cycle, even though you didn't have access to the data for most of it.

If you increase your data plan online with AT&T, they give you the option right there to choose now, starting at the previous billing, or starting at the next billing. If you are not concerned about going over this billing period, start at the beginning of the next billing period to avoid confusing prorated charges.
