Best way to send/receive text messages on Nexus 7?

Tablet Talk. Best use of a few bucks that I've made in quite a while. I don't use my GNex at all now when I'm at home..which is a good thing: that phone needs every boost to its battery life that it can get;)

Im using Sync SMS to send/receive SMSs on my Nexus 7. Works nicely. Uses dropbox as the medium for syncing between both devices. App has to be installed on both devices of course.

Hmm, I've used both SyncSMS and TextTab... Kept both because one works fine over Wifi/Dropbox (as you said) and the other works infer Bluetooth when I'm out of the house. With so many people recommending Tablet Talk I guess I oughta try it out tho.

Edit: So yeah, I dunno how I missed Tablet Talk for so long but it seems to combine the better aspects of both the apps I mentioned above, plus it adds some extras like being able to receive/control calls on a Bluetooth headset from the tablet. I think TexTab actually looks a bit better but it hasn't been updated since December, so I might switch to Tablet Talk if it works reliably.

That being said, there's still some merit to SyncSMS' Dropbox approach since using DB means both devices don't have to be on the same network... Hell, you could leave your phone at home on the charger and hop on a plane and receive texts from anywhere you can find Wifi on the tablet... Not saying it's the most effective way of actually doing that, but there's merit to being able to text from the tablet without turning on Bluetooth or hopping on the same as the phone.

You can use the Mighty Text web app in the Chrome browser on your Nexus 7. In browser, go to MightyText. It will log in to your google acct (you'll have to give permission). No alerts or notifications like other native apps that give you access to your sms (I use Tablet Talk generally), but you can use Mighty Text until developer makes a Jelly Bean tablet native app.

Does anyone use Zipwhip? They have not only Android apps, for both tablets and phones, but also support texting from PCs (Windows, Macs, Linux) and seem to be supported by Sprint on any web browser (zipwhip.sprint.com).

if you use google voice on your tablet then you must download GROOVE IP to use your tablet as fully functional telephone

Heywire My wife use it on her kindle and I used it on my Galaxy Tab. If you do not mind having a phone number for you N7 just for sms it works great.

For SMS syncing of your "real" phone # to your tablet, I personally swear by SyncSMS. As previously stated you don't need to be on the same network - just both be logged into the same Drop Box account & it just works.

However, textPlus also syncs if you don't mind having a secondary # - I personally use both depending on who I'm communicating with.

I haven't done any direct comparisons, but I bet GV uses much less battery on the tablet than the others and your phone can be off and you don't have to install anything on your phone.

I got tablet talk yesterday, and so far it's been working just great!! I have not tried the call feature yet, but texting on it is good. I get the text to my N7 before they show on my phone. :):D:)

Mighty SMS is nice. Also handles MMS. Does not bypass carrier, but if you have unlimited text no worries. I use it on my ipad through chrome browser and it also syncs desktop. No notifications on ipad, but this can be enabled on desktop. SMS/MMS are sent out instantly across all platforms.

Tablet Talk works great but the one thing that it fails at is auto syncing. Both my phone and tablet connect to the wifi network but despite it's settings in the menu, never syncs automatically. I always have to manually connect both devices.
