Interestingly the calendar app seems to stay in dark mode after a reboot however the email app needs to be re-enabled through developer options if you want it to be dark. I think it's getting more refined folks

Yep

I emailed Artem at Android Police and asked him to check if any of them have the same issue. Will see what he says before I do a factory reset.

The broken switch in developer options to force dark mode it's probably causing the Gmail to remain White. However, the calendar is automatically dark.

And the search bar on the home screen stays dark gray, not AMOLED black or white, which is also weird.
