I think google and manufacturers should make beta available to all devices just like apple does. What the big deal they would get so much more feedback which will help the new OS out.

This is the one thing apple has over Android beta availability and OS upgrades for everyone.......

Samsung limits it to unlocked models and the carriers chose whether or not to participate.

This isn't a hard thing to do and it would only benefit both google and carriers I just don't understand. This was one of the reasons I still used apple iphone but the new note 20 killed that I can do without now.
If my note stays the way it is now I don't ever need any update!!! I am not a person that needs updates for the hell of it I like improvements.

With Apple Apple handles the carrier part too. With Android, haven't they now pulled them apart so the core OS is in it's own box separate from carrier support, drivers, libraries?

I just want to see it done right. And this time I don't have a 2nd Galaxy to use beta with.

They'll never be able to pull everything apart where Android can update it's OS independently and manufacturers can do their sw independently.

Heard of Treble??... Heard of it lately??... No because it was all the dream. In Samsung's case, you have OneUI and Bixby to name a couple... no way Google can do any major updates without breaking something of Samsungs. And if you don't break it, you certainly will have constant glitches, crashes, or... yes the "L" word... lag.

That is one feature I miss from my Pixel, the ability to get updates. Android 11 has a new drop menu/notifications update, that looks very appealing.

To be honest, when it comes to my expensive new state of the art device, I'll rather use something already tested and working than using that device as a testing device.
If I got the device for free they could put me on beta everything but I like how this thing works

Not as easy as you think , Samsung has way too many models and regions to test this and then carriers testing . Apple has one product to concentrate on don't matter region .

They may have currently x number of iPhone models... the 11 in standard and Pro, the SE, the XR(?). But...

Then also count the previous 4 generations of iPhones that they are still supporting... PLUS their current gen iPad, Air, and Pro models... PLUS the last 4 generations of those iPads... Each one and each gen has their own unique configuarations of processors, displays, etc...

All those models they still support and they can push an OS update to update ALL those units at the same gat damn time!! They are pretty amazing.

Oh and throw in the Watch OS... and AppleTV OS too since they seem to push updates to those the same time as the iPhones and iPads too.

Samsung? They toss you away after two years of software updates (now three starting with the newer models)... and I don't even know if they are so generous with cheaper models. So I wonder if they really would be supporting as many devices as Apple has at any given time.

"ALL those units at the same gat damn time!!"

That was the highlight

Keep in mind Samsung has to integrate with One UI first so not just throwing Android 11 beta out there, they give One UI / Android 11 beta together

Apple can do a lot of things because they control all iOS devices, whereas Google does not. It's the price to pay if you don't want to be locked into the Apple ecosystem.
