Better battery life?

Running a T-Mobile HTC 10. Yesterday I applied the security update which has my software at version 1.81.531.4. I swear today my battery life is better. It's currently at 96% whereas usually at this point in the morning it's down to about 90%. My usage is about the same as every other day, so I don't think that accounts for it. I also had some updates to apps yesterday.

Do the security updates do anything more than security? Could that be the source of what appears to be better battery life or is it more likely my app updates and/or just random chance?

Hard to know post hoc, but check out the battery option in the settings. Might show you the power consumption by app. Don't know how you would compare it with yesterday's consumption though...

As far as your first question, yes. With every update, regardless of whether it's security or not, there are a lot of other improvements made that don't necessarily get listed in the changelog. It could also have to do with an app update or the phone getting used to the new software. Give it a couple days and look at it again. Hopefully your battery life really is improved! I haven't had a chance to check the update out for myself yet, but I will as soon as I make it back home!

Does anyone notice the phone gets hotter Alot faster after this update? I cleared the system cache my phone is currently 107 degrees Fahrenheit indoors in a very cool room.

Mine does not run hot at all after the update. Battery life seems much improved and it was decent before. Really pretty happy with it overall.

How do you make your run so cool. Right now, phone is 104 degrees Fahrenheit inside a room that's 75 degrees Fahrenheit. I read somewhere that power saving mode heats up the battery more because it limits the phone instead of letting it go all the way up and down on the CPU,correct me if I'm wrong.

Don't know about power saving mode making it hot, I never use it tho, no need. Would seem counter productive tho as heat=battery loss incrementally. Takes battery to make it hot obviously.
I reboot 2 or 3 times a week and clear the app cache usually weekly as by then it is approaching 1GB. It will warm occasionally, but not that much and never, not even close to hot. Usually runs cool always. I don't game at all so maybe that helps. Battery life on this thing is awesome. I used my MXPE the same and it would hit 113F all the time.

Well mine with no power saving mode seems to drain Alot more when it's on than with it turned off. Also do you use it outdoors alot.

Outdoors? Only if on a call or sitting in the shade having a cool drink maybe. No idea why some drain more than others. Personal usage must have a lot to do with it. I don't use FB or any other social media stuff and very little is running in the background. What do you have updating behind the scenes? Maybe an app is hogging power.

Maybe I do how do I check what is running in the background and how do I check what is hogging power?

Settings>power>battery usage. From here you can check any app that looks power hungry and see just how much battery it is using. Click on the app and scroll down to the bottom and it shows mAh usage individually.
Also the battery app GSam is real good for exploring power consumption.

What would be considered high mah?

Depends, Don't know what apps you have, mostly common sense, just see what you got. Look at the percents also. Is Facebook taking 80%? 60%? Red flag then maybe. Everybody says Facebook is a hog, I don't know, never used it. other stuff to, just look at it.
