Better Sound from Video Recording - Pixel 2

I've searched so many things online and I have concluded that there's no way to set up a lav mic to get better sound when I record videos on my Google Pixel 2. I understand that the camera on the Pixel 2 is one of the best on the market and I want to take full advantage of that for my company since we are in real estate and shoot lots of videos. The issue is that the sound quality isn't great and we want to step up our game. We have a lav mic but it doesn't seem to work when I use the USB-C adapter I read online that this is just how it is.

Is there a Bluetooth mic that I can use?
Is there a program that will enable the use of my lav mic?
Is there any way to improve the mic on the phone?

I heard it's the camera app that doesn't support external mic sources ,but if you use a third-party camera app like open camera you can select to use your external mic if you connect one. of course that camera app is not as good. hopefully these developers start taking advantage of the pixel visual core to improve image quality.

Not sure if the OP ever found a suitable 3rd party camera application which supported the external microphone (I've seen Open Camera https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=net.sourceforge.opencamera mentioned by a few others that were looking for this capability) but supposedly a future update to the stock Camera application will include this support.
