Big difference between Android Central and iMore

Well, by that definition, the iPhone is bloat-filled as well. You can't uninstall Apple's launcher or email or music player either, right?

How so? There is no open-source iOS project to replace default apps with.

Nexus is just a flavor of Android as well.

The flavor android should be: quick, prompt updates with no added bloatware that hogs up resources.

Every skinned device I've ever used has a noticeable lag and the future updates are well..... a mystery as well

In an open-source world, that's not for one person or company to decide.

So Apple's apps don't count as bloat simply because Apple doesn't let you uninstall them? Removing 3rd party app integration would magically make the nexus 4 bloat-free?

Moto Phones are similarly prices to Nexus phones. And then there are the Chinese phones to consider. It's not just Nexus anymore.

Samsung is not Android. Samsung is just a flavor of Android that sells well.

Yes it is. It is on every Android phone released in 2014 that also has Google Play on it. It is a default app.

Even if it wasn't, it is freely installable on any of them.

The Moto X is $500, not $350 like the Nexus.

And it is standard after Kit Kat, if you are using a stock Android device. All OEMs still have their own messaging apps. People still need to have a Google + account for Hangouts to work with MMS instead of MMS. So no, it is not the same as iOS. I already told you some features that iMessage has that are not available on Hangouts.

You're still not getting it.

It's "stock Android" vs. "stock Google" all over again.

Android = AOSP
Nexus = Google's Android

The "bloat" on iOS as you've defined it doesn't exist. Apple is not replacing a stock iOS music player with their Music app. Their Music app is the stock iOS music player.

In the example of the Google Now Launcher: Instead of using the current launcher from AOSP (which is currently Launcher3), Google ships the Nexus 5 with the Google Now Launcher. By Google replacing Launcher3 with Google Now, it can be considered bloat over Android.

This has nothing to do with third party application integration. The Google Now Launcher is bloat over stock Android.

Me too, but thats not an Android thing. My Nexus had zero bloat.

My Nexus 4 was free (no money down) from T-Mobile. I bought my Nexus 5s (plural) off-contract from Google for about $400 after tax.

Yeah, I remember hearing the same thing about large displays and widgets and replaceable keyboards not all that long ago. Just sayin.

All the stuff iPeople claimed they didn't care about all of a sudden mattered once Apple got it too.

Bluetooth has worked on mine flawlessly since I got it. I've never had an issue.

I use widgets for all of that. I don't even have to open anything...it's just there.

Hangouts allows me to make phone calls on my tablet now if I want to. And gives me free wifi calling on any devices I own as if it were a phone. It works completely independently of a carrier or phone company. If my phone is downstairs and I am upstairs with my tablet, I can just take the call on my tablet. This is something I have used today, and works flawlessly. Hangouts also incorporates my SMS and IM into one place. It allows video calling natively as well.

I have never understood the appeal of iMessage. It seems like something that is only really useful if all your friends also own Apple stuff.

Lol! You are always good for a point by point rebuttal. I remember you vigorously defending the 8GB Nexus 4!

imessage is superior because you can attach many pictures or even a video from your idevice and it just works. I just tried to send a 15 second video via hangouts on my nexus 5 to my iPhone and it says MMS is too large. I have sent minute long videos from my iPhone via imessage and it just works. Not a big deal until you want to see someone a video. And yes it is only for iPhone users and most of my family my and friends also have iphones even if they have androids also.

I chose to own both platforms. I see features of both I like.

The new Moto X. Not the old one...

And that would have been good if they had implemented it from the beginning. Most people use other apps, and requiring a Google + account probably played a part in that. Not many use those services. You still need other people to have the app installed for it to work. iMessage is standard on all iOS and OS X devices, so MMS for texting without cell service works out of the box.

It doesn't exist on Nexus either. What you are calling bloat, no one else is calling bloat.

I don't agree with your definition of bloat.

All I need is a yes or no answer to this question: Instead of using Launcher3 from AOSP, Samsung uses their own TouchWiz launcher/home app. Is this bloat?

Apples to oranges.

Your initial statement re: iMessage should be:

imessage is superior because you can attach many pictures or even a video from your idevice and it just works (if sent to another idevice/Apple device).

texting, mms, imessage, hangouts.....

whatsapp defeats them all.....
in terms of media, whatsapp is king in that regard.

It depends on your definition of bloat. Google has it's own bloat and has been shipping it on Nexus devices like Google Play Music (vs. the open source Android music player), Google Play Music & TV (vs. the native Android video player), Google Now Launcher (vs. Launcher3 from the Android source), etc. etc. etc.

And the most famous google +...I was referring to carrier model phones with bloatware. I realize T-Mobile sold the nexus 4, but most do not consider the N4 a carrier phone.

Why do you consider a phone from a year ago analogous to a phone just released?

And that would have been good if they had implemented it from the beginning. Most people use other apps, and requiring a Google + account probably played a part in that. Not many use those services. You still need other people to have the app installed for it to work.
I don't think I've seen a phone or tablet in 2014 that doesn't have hangouts installed.

All I need is a yes or no answer to this question: Instead of using Launcher3 from AOSP, Samsung uses their own TouchWiz launcher/home app. Is this bloat?

No.

Because the touchwiz launcher is not the reason Touchwiz is considered bloat.

Let me ask you this...is the fact that you can't uninstall facebook from iOS's share menu evidence that the iPhone has bloat?

Not to mention $550 if you want 32GB and $575 if you want a wooden or leather back. Over $600 once it hits your doorstep. I just sold a OPO and it was $364 to the door which is nice but it is not a replacement for a Nexus or iPhone. Not yet anyways.
