Bionic bootstrap and CM9

I'm running cm9 on my bionic and can't create or restore backups. Also, when I try to flash nightlies I get stuck at the Motorola dual core screen. I tried using safestrap but after booting into safestrap and only rebooting the phone it hung at the "updating android" screen. Do I have to use the bootstrap every time to do backups and to flash new roms even though I'm on cm9?

ive only had a bionic for a week, but after pretty thorough reading, i can say there isnt much choice on roms compared to my last two droids (Droid a855 and Droid inc). in fact i feel like i was spoiled by the amount of mods and roms available, but the difference was tbe bootloader being unlocked and conqured, reslectively. while there arent alot of blur-less roms i actually like elements of blur. my favorite rom is KIN3TX TH3ORY. Its stock tweaked proper. the dev (one of the main devs) isnt developing anymore, but they SHOULD BE because the rom is sick!! to get ya started, check this thread: follow these directions to get to stock/find the mistake. i think if you uninstall bootstrap, install the safestrap .apk, then open the apk and install the recovery youll be good to go, but other backups made with bootstrap wont restore with safestrap and vice-versa. either way this threax is a good place to start. Thanks for the reply. I'm not sure how...but I finally got it to work and have flashed several roms since then. I was probably skipping a step somewhere.
