Bionic died

My droid bionic flat out died when I was setting up to use the Golf Logix app. It found the course, I loaded the course then it froze. I was unable to turn it off. Had to remove/reinstall the battery. Then, it would not turn on. I and Verizon tried everything to no avail. First, is it possible that a program/app caused the failure? Anyone have a similar problem? I also had the JuiceDefender app because the Golf Logix app would drain the battery before I could finish 12 holes. Any thoughts on how the replacements are for this phone?
