Birthday alerts

When inputting birthday dates in my contacts, I don't see an option to alert X amount of days before that day. So do I have to buy an app to do this? My other phones would post it in my calendar and alert me 7 days prior.

yea, sucky. it does not get added to your calendar automatically. Seems like a no-brainer to me.

Is there an app out there?

You can set up Reminders in the calendar.
