Bixby Reviews / Discussion

You don't have to use it lol. Don't worry about the button just learn to not hit it accidently or you could get a phone that doesn't have Bixby. S8

I have no problem disabling it. The button wasnt the question though. What will make Bixby great and innovative? You made a pretty substantial statement and Im curious if you have an idea or information to clarify that statement. What is it that people think Bixby is going to do to make it a valuable bit of software vs the current options already available?

If theres some new function then maybe Ill re-enable it but as of now it seems extremely redundant and unnecessary.

clearly Bixby will not be a "smart" as Google Assistant in tems of knowledgebase/search, but as a phone assistant it's better than google. i'm probably a niche user but being visually impaired, changing phone settings by voice is a huge help. "turn on auto brightness' when heading outside is handy. even organizing pics in the gallery is simple as saying "move pictures to a specific album". Bixby has learned to use my Samsung music app when saying 'play music", so it appears to be learning. I think Samsung is banking more on their own Bixby/smarthings ecosystem as they implement it in their other electronics and appliances. I think Bixby and google assistant each have their strong points.

How is it different? What can or will it do that Google doesn't already do? People keep saying it can be great. How can it be great? It won't have access to some of the best features of android AI such as Android Auto. I can drive home, and without touching my phone, open my garage, turn on my lights, navigate to a destination, make a call, send a text, check weather, tune into some music. Samsung will never be able to access those features in Android Auto. What else can or will Bixby be able to do that is "innovative"? What can we expect that isn't already available besides a button?

It's an easy question to answer if you believe what you just said.

Do you think Samsung can gather anywhere near the amount of data Google can from the few devices they will offer with Bixby vs the thousands of Google devices? Every pc has access to Google, how many will access Bixby? It's a flawed approach that is a couple years too late.

Tell Google to gather all of the pictures you took at the fair last night and send them to your brother. Google can't. Bixby can. That's one example.

Thank you, that's the kind of info I'm looking for. Not something I would ever do but definitely useful.

Ok I have finally found a use for me and Bixby. You can earn Samsung Pay rewards points by using Bixby. You have to enroll by accepting all the Bixby terms, go to "My Bixby" and click "Join Now" on the Samsung Pay section.

Edit: It appears you can only get 200 XP per day and only get Samsung Pay points when you level up. Disabling yet again.

I think too many people do not understand what Bixby is. it is not a replacement Google Assistant, at least not right now. Bixby is designed to replace your touch and swipe wit voice command. it allow compound co.ands and can be a valuable tool. are there bugs? of course there. don't forget gmail was in beta for years only coming out of beta within the last year or so.

Search youtube for examples

Okay I'm really starting to enjoy Bixby I just tested her on a few random things that I haven't tried before. I asked her how old a certain movie star was and she pulled it right up I also asked her what the current temperature was in another country and she pulled that right up as well she's turning out to be just like Google Voice Plus inside phone assistance as well I love it

Exactly! Recently I went on a trip to Las Vegas, The Grand Canyon in AZ, and Zion National Park in Utah. Tons and tons of photos on top of what I already have. Bixby can make albums of these photos and actually moves/organize them without you touching your phone. Now imagine checking each indivitual photos to move them.
Bixby can go deep into your settings. Google can't. Tell Bixby to 'Optimize the Phone' and it will.
Bixby or Samsung can never compete with Google when it comes to data. In fact it uses google to search for stuff when you ask Bixby in a Q&A session. But it is there to assist you in a way to make a lot of stuff easier. 3rd party app support/integration are starting to roll and will come in time

The only thing I wish i could figure out is how to message my friends correctly. For example, my husband's name is cynryc and when I say "open Facebook messenger and tell Cynryc: love you too" or whatever she gets really confused about the spelling of the name and will try to search for a Kenrick based off my pronunciated, same for my friend Toni which bixby tries to search for a Tony. Does anyone know of a way o could make her understand who I'm trying to talk to? I tried typing the names manually into "teach me" and she still misspells them

Maybe put in a nickname for your husband and friend to something that Bixby may understand better.

I'm enjoying Bixby very much so far. I particularly like it for getting to settings deep within the settings structure.

I haven't had her do much in settings, just trying out various stuff. She s good at: turning Bluetooth on or off, playing Pandora, opening waze and closing it when I'm done using it, sending text messages for me, opening email. I like that I can put her in the phone holder in the car and set out on the road. Tell her connect to Bluetooth so she does and connects to the car. I can have the car read aloud messages or have Pandora play through the speakers (same with waze alerts). She can start navigation too.

I tried checking flight status with Bixby, FAILURE. It's gonna take a while for Bixby to catch up with Google.
