Bizarre storage results on S5

My S5 won't let me update any apps because it says there's no room, and it's displaying very strange stats (more on that in a sec). I moved as many apps as i could to my SD card, but still no joy. I deleted everything from my download folder, but it's still says there is 63MB of content.

Here's the weird part: the phone is only 16GB (which was the biggest I could buy, which was frustrating) but it says:

-- my apps consume 45GB -- how can that be (unless it's including whatever portion of the apps are on the SD card).
-- the device memory has 593MB of available space

I"m at a loss as to what to do.

Attached is a screen shot of the storage reportScreenshot_2015-09-05-08-06-01.jpg

You have 4.44gb of usable space in the cache. Go to settings, storage. Touch and hold "cached data".
Press "ok"
You will free up more than four gb.

Yea, heavy and a bottle of bread.

That is bizarre. I have used an app called SD Maid (with "Biggest" function) to help identify storage/space issues. I had an app that was taking way more space than listed under application manager and when I cleared the data my space issue was resolved. Worth a try for you maybe, but clearing cache per previous post is easy fix for starters.
