I just saw the Black and White HTC One's display phones at my local AT&T. The black color was kept behind the counter. The sales guy who is a friend of my sister said he is not supposed to show the black colored one to anyone because it is not available yet. He did let me have a peek and snap a few pictures.
I can say the black finish is the exact same as the silver. I did notice there was finger prints that was noticeable after I held it . However, you could wipe it
Off no problems. He also said the black model will come out in May is what he is hearing. Finger prints aside? The black model looks awesome in person.
I will definitely wait for it over the silver model.

The black does look pretty sexy!! Thats why I went with a black iPhone 5. If I was going to get the One I would definitely wait for the black.

Agree 100% When I bought my EVO lte I got the black one. Once I seen the white model I really wanted that instead.

So when the one was released I was sure I would want the white... Nope

Black looks amazing. Best looking black phone I've ever seen with the DNA coming in second :)

I was going to wait for the black but I couldn't wait (needed to have a One ASAP). I'm very satisfied with the silver and am sure I'd prefer it now still over the black.
I've ordered my Otterbox Commuter case and I'm sure I'll use it as I'm rough on phones but I really hate to hide this beauty in any case...

I did hear about the chipping problem with the black finish.
I examined both colors. The finishes had the same type of coating Imo. I would speculate if the black color has a chipping problem? I would venture to say
The silver would have this problem too?

Yes the black colored one is sexy.
When you all get to see it in person. I bet
The first word that will come to mind will be
Stealthy.

Yea I seen the black at BB. Not to worried about chipping or scratching if it's anything like my EVO lte

The black ones on display at any BB, AT&T and Sprint are all dummy units with no working screens, just an inserted decal beneath the screen. They do not have the same internals so their weight and weight distribution in the hand is not exactly the way the finished product will appear. Also, the reason for the delay on the black one is due to chipping of the anodized shell. They're still working the kinks out but it should be available by the end of May.

BB did have a working silver one though so I'd assume the weight and feel would be the same. They did just have the dummy black though like you said
