Black is the only color for the 512GB model?

I said elsewhere but had to be a bean counter decision... Seeing the retail price of $1299, they really seemed to want to make it $100 cheaper then the S20U.

Maybe they heard the complaints on price and wanted to avoid the same at $1399 and hope to have better sales.

IMO they shouid have just add the $100 and put in the $256. I would have paid the extra $100 to the price I got it at since they already shocked us with the $1399 on the S20.

It's next year's phones they are really gonna think hard on price.

If anything im upset about the Note 20U is they went down to 128gb with base storage , that was big mistake , I can understand the S line but very bad decision.

Black is a good base color, you could always paint it!

I am getting the 20 Ultra 5GB 512GB black, and will wait until JerryRigEverything (YT name) creates a new skin of what it looks like inside the new phone and put those one it. :)

Thanks,

Best Buy normally has a universal unlocked phone.
Their house color is guess what..
....
BLUE.........

Aura Blue was their exclusive color on the Note 10.

Cloud Silver was their exclusive color on the Note 9.

Deep Sea Blue was their exclusive on Note 8.

Just saying it's not always blue.

Is there any meed for 512 when there is expandable storage. I could see it being a problem absent that feature.

No but 256 should've been standard especially when the system takes up about 40-60gb by default.

Also, it seems like the extra cost for onboard storage you never recover on resale. Its not like a phone without expandable that will demand a higher selling price compared to a lower equipped phone.

Just checked my S20 Ultra and it's 21. Keep in mind that you don't get the full 128 without even subtracting the system memory so I have about 80gb true memeory that I can use which can make it difficult with 4K video etc. Luckily I have the 256gb card from the note 7 fiasco that's still going strong.
Is it that much? I dont remember that much being used for the system in the S20U.

In what use case woud 512 be necessary with expandable srorage?
Your question went from need to necessary after I posted my response. My answer may not satisfy your need or desire for more internal memory.

If speed and stability and storing a lot of apps aren't important to you than micro SD may be adequate for you. External storage is fine for storing a lot of content, however compared to internal storage especially in newer devices it crawls. Also, make sure you back it up occasionaly.

For the context of this thread it's mostly a discussion between getting 128 vs 512, at least in the U.S.A. While 512 may be extreme for many there is no middle ground to choose from. 128 is much less and for many who have large files requires adding a micro SD. I use mine mostly for backup of what's on my device. Keep in mind also that 8K and 4K take up a lot of room and some cards don't support the speeds required to record or playback video. I suppose an argument could be made to just buy a faster card for video, however that doesn't change the fact that it's less reliable especially if you handle it alot taking it and of the device. I only use external storage for backup so in my case I have to be frugal with internal storage smaller than 512. In my case I can easily justify a need for more internal memory. Is it absolutely necessary? That's purely debatable and a matter of choice.

90 seems to be what i remember too. 128 isn't much these days...but as you said cards make the difference.

On most trade ins you won't see a difference. If you sell it privately you might get a little more, but even if you don't it might be a faster sale. Using the S20 Ultra as an example the extra cost was also included additional RAM.

I see your point. It seems that regardless whether the data is on a card or internal prudent practice would dictate regular backups to somewhere other than the device itself. Speed seems to maybe be the only defining difference and my understanding is those fast cards still arent as fast as internal storage. I also thought i read that card use more battery but that was a long time ago.
Thanks for the well thought out response.
