Does the GPE have the long homekey press function to activate menus? I'm currently running the GPE ROM from xda and it seems not. Is this a Sense-only feature?

Which ROM are you running? There are a few gpe Roms out there. Also try tapping right above the htc logo. Maybe your ROM included a custom kernel that enables the logo2menu function. If not, try fauxs kernel which should enable that. The gpe Roms them themselves don't have the options for a menu button that's mapped through the home button.

I'm running bigxie_m7_GPe_oxexed_stock-7-7-13, there's no reaction if I tap above the HTC logo. Thank you for the info

Then you need a different kernel that is compatible with your ROM. There should be some available. I'm using fauxs kernel with sinless gpe ROM which has the logo2menu.
