Huawei Mate SE, using it today and I minimized an app and the screen went black. Couldn't get it back on. Held the power for a minute and it rebooted, a vertical white line down the screen while showing the logo.

The white line stays when finished, but trying to open ANY app (or drop-down menu for settings or anything) turns the screen black. No way to get it back on but to reboot.

Booted successfully in Safe Mode, however still had the white line and still turned black when I tried to open anything.

This is an insane problem I've never seen. Wasn't dropped, was holding it in my hand when it happened. Screen not damaged. What's going on??

Please help need phone. DX

Welcome to Android Central! Hardware failure doesn't have to be due to physical damage. Something might have just failed. Is the phone still under warranty?

Okay I signed up (dunno if there was a way to link my signup to this topic, but if so I failed. XD)

I called a local repair shop and they said they couldn't help me because they don't have parts for Huawei, which seems pretty ridiculous to me I mean... I didn't think you carried EVERY part to EVERY phone I thought you ordered them as needed?

I did manage to get the thing mirrored to my car radio, and when I swipe-to-unlock via the touchscreen on the radio screen, the RADIO screen goes black. I think this confirms it's not a screen issue but rather a hardware issue? Maybe?

B. Diddy, I did get this phone off eBay and it's under the seller's 90-day warranty so luckily I can send it back for a replacement. I think I'll just do that, since I likely can't afford a repair, even if I find a shop that'll do it.

So new question! How do I save my data to my PC for to put on a new phone when the replacement comes? I've found guides online but they all want you to install stuff onto the PC and the phone, and I don't have access to the phone. I can plug it into my computer and look at the stuff on it, but that's it. Is there a way to recover the 53 (heh yeah...) tabs I had open in Chrome on a new phone? Can I just copy folders and plunk 'em in a new phone or will that do nothing? It'll be the same make and model phone, I dunno if that makes a difference.

Ugh I'm computer-savvy and can do all kinda recovery on computers, but I'm too new to phones for this. :\

If it's not opening properly even when you're mirroring the screen, then it's probably not the screen that's failed, but either the firmware or the motherboard. From that standpoint, I don't think you'll be able to recover any of the locally saved data. Was any of the data you're concerned about backed up or synced anywhere, like your computer hard drive, or Google Drive/Google Photos?

Assuming you were signed into Chrome with your Google account, then your browsing history should show up in any Chrome browser where you're also signed in. The exact information on each tab at the time you last used the phone won't necessarily show up, but at least you'll able to see which sites you visited.

Hi, welcome!
Also Huawei should have a cloud back up , make sure everything sync to that and Google cloud back up

Yeah, might be able to access the Chrome history because it automatically backs up, but I didn't back up anything else because I don't like using backups and having everything online.

I can access all the folders on my PC though, I've checked. What WOULD happen if I just copied everything over, would it brick the phone or do nothing, or...?

Are you certain you can actually access the files in those folders? If the phone has a screen lock, and if you're unable to unlock the screen, then the computer probably can't actually see what's in those folders.

Copying from can't affect the phone. But there's data that you can't copy - like SMS (texts). game scores, etc. (Which is why you should always have everything important backed up.)

But copy whatever you can to the PC. Then send it back for a replacement or refund.

I managed to remove the screen-lock. My fella has the same phone so I managed to navigate through the settings on his and just touching blindly my own screen in order to remove it, so yeah I can see the files now. XD

So assuming things aren't backed up to the Netherverse, IS there a program I can use to backup game data and texts and all of that via the PC? Just plug in old phone and new phone and transfer? Surely that must exist...

Glad you were able to figure that out! I'm not aware of any good total backup solution that essentially saves an image of the phone's storage. Helium used to be the go-to, but my understanding is that it hasn't been updated lately and doesn't work that well any more.
